Great video! Lots of info and straight to the point. I believe a few of your concerns have since been addressed, particularly the stop to prevent contact with the frame. They must have paid heed to your observations!

Great video and nice detail. I ordered one for my 2018 JL (and I paid a shop to install it - way to much for me and they even had a heck of a time). But at least they do now include the swing stop to keep it from hitting the vehicle. I love it, very well made, but expensive.

Excellent! Thanks for the hard work. I’m baffled as to why the written instructions from the factories are so poorly written and poorly thought out. I get it when the product comes from China, but I don’t get it when the product comes from America or other English speaking countries such as Australia. I just installed an Australian ARB stubby front bumper and Rugged Ridge winch on the front of my 2017 JK Unlimited Sport. The instructions from ARB weren’t great. The product is outstanding, but instructions I’d give a C+ only. Your written review on your webpage of your install of the LoD rear set up was outstanding. I’ll refer to it when I do my install as I’ve finally decided on the LoD for my rig. Also, I don’t understand why most vlogers don’t state how much they’ve spent on their upgrades. It would be helpful to know for those of us doing research for our own rigs. I got my ARB stubby for $569 and the Rugged Ridge 9500lb water proof winch for $299. The ARB arrived damaged...with no damage to the box. Which means it wasn’t damaged during shipping, but perhaps during packaging. Which means the packer knew it was damaged and shipped it anyway. This reflects poorly on ARB. However, Quadratec provided excellent customer service and immediately shipped out a new one and provided free shipping for the damaged one to be returned. Very impressed with them. G-

Indeed the problem is that most people are not good writers. I'm not great by any stretch, but technical documentation takes skill and many people don't have it. Technical docs need to be very clear, concise, without misinterpretation. These types of companies are surely focused on producing a good product, but should also invest in a good documentation creator. I wish I got the LOD Destroyer rear bumper after they made their revisions. It would be nice to have that tire carrier arm safety.

I’ve been on the fence about this bumper system. Looks solid, I like all of the accessory options as well. How do you like it now that you’ve had it for a while?
@ocabj3 жыл бұрын
The carrier has a resonance while hitting bumps. It's not terrible, but you can tell the carrier does vibrate to some extent. I think it all depends on how you adjust the carrier itself with regards to the tailgate plate and the tire itself. My only real complaint is that my version doesn't have a safety lock for the carrier to prevent it from swinging away and hitting the body if it's not attached. But LOD appears to have added that feature after I bought mine in a newer revision. I actually wish there was a lock to keep the carrier locked open because when I'm on an incline with the Jeep camber, the tailgate/door won't stay open if it's driver's side lower. This has been an issue on occasion when I'm at my range driving out into the impact area and needing to access the cargo area. But overall, I would probably go this route again as there really isn't any other better option that I've seen out there.

The new model now 2020 has a stopper for swing tire carrier so does not open all the way and hit the lights and rear fender and hinges. Also the third brake light relocation is updated also, so when you bolt in is in the middle not by passenger side.

Yeah, I got wind that they made revisions. It's nice that LOD did that.

That quick release mechanism looks awfully close to the tail gate. has there been any contact there?
@ocabj3 жыл бұрын
Negative. I had concerns when I was researching this and there is no contact during operation of the tailgate. The only time it will hit is if you are trying to remove the release from the ball and you let it slip from your hands to spring back and hit.

Jon, Thanks so much for the details on the bumper. Are you still happy with your bumper?
@ocabj4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I am still happy with the bumper. Given that they made a revision to it and added a safety so the arm won't swing freely to hit the body, I think it is an even better bumper and tire carrier solution.

Did you have to drill the frame to install this? I am looking for my 2014 JK but do not intend to drill my frame

Yes, I had to drill two holes and open up one pre-existing hole to get it to 1/2 inch - www.ocabj.net/lod-offroad-destroyer-full-width-rear-bumper-with-tire-carrier-install-and-review/

Does the quick release rattle or scratch the tale gate?
@ocabj5 жыл бұрын
No QR rattle. The QR can scratch your tailgate if you do something like let the carrier run into the tailgate while they are unlinked. But under intended operation, no the QR doesn't contact the tailgate. The system by itself is relatively quiet. But once I added the Hi-Lift it started to resonate, so adding more accessories on will affect noise.

Asking this as I’m watching so not sure if you cover this but what is the weight as is without any of the other add ons you can buy?
@ocabj6 жыл бұрын
I didn't weigh it myself. But LOD cites the full width + tire carrier as 146 lbs. Definitely a lot of weight added on compared to the OEM bumper which is less that 16 lbs. The LOD rear pretty much eliminated the forward rake. I'll probably do a lift in a couple years. I'm in no rush, but I figure by that time, the OEM Rubicon springs will have worn in and the Jeep will benefit from the suspension upgrade.
@canonphoto6 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Ocab thanks for the reply, I currently have the XRC GEN2 front bumper and 10K lb Warn on my JKU Sahara, had to adjust headlights as it droops a lot in the front now and rides like a tank. I was talking to my sales guy at 4-Wheel Parts about this system as well as another like it, he recommended that because of the total weight I just stick with a regular XRC bumper and just use an HD tire carrier without the optional tire carrier. All depends what direction I go with this build as it is my daily driver weight is a huge factor. I am adding a 2.5” Rubicon Express lift which will make it ride much nicer and level everything out once rear is done along with flat fenders and rock sliders, armour etc. Will be going with 35’s same time I change fenders. Thank you for the great vid, quality is top notch and just subbed your channel. Looking forward to more

I need some help, I have one too. But I'm having problems with it. Y have a lot of vibrations. Can you help me?
@ocabj6 жыл бұрын
All I can say is try to adjust the rubber pucks. I added the horizontal Hi-Lift jack mount and a Rotopax mount and I am getting more resonance out of the system than before when it was just the spare tire. I call it resonance and not vibration, although it's almost one in the same in this context. It doesn't really bug me, though.

At 15 mins you talk about the carrier swinging too far to hit the jeep body. Have you, or anyone, considered making your own stop by running a neoprene bumper stop bolted down through the top of the bumper to avoid it going too far? Is there room for it? Could a safety strap, or bungee, be installed on the tailgate to avoid the further swing out? At 19 mins. you talk about the lower hinge tailgate cover. Yes it puts a finite abrasion there, But putting an adhesive rubber there would take up Even More space and possibly push it even further in risking the cracked cover. Anyone who offroads at all shouldn't be worried about a scuff like that. Mall crawlers buying expensive parts get annoyed by that stuff.
@ocabj2 жыл бұрын
I considered drilling a hole and putting in a bumper, but never got around to doing it. As far as saying that anyone who offroads shouldn't worry about a scuff like that, that's kind of pretentious. If that were the case, then why don't they just prescratch Jeeps at the factory? I understand the attitude though. I sometimes turn an eye when people get mad when there's a scratch on their AR after they install a roll pin.
