I know this is easier said than done but try to remember you are ONE of billions of people, you are ONE individual up against cooperations and industries, you were born in an era where climate change had already become so imbedded in social norms and that isn’t by your choice. Your anxiety is valid, it’s f*cling scary to think of all the life here that relies on the climate being stable. But please don’t let it control you, in the end the continuation of corporate systems by the big knobs who dgaf in their ivory towers is going to be the downfall. There’s debate on everything, political differences, wars etc. and all the green washing in the world won’t make them step down if it’s not in some kind of economic/financial interest Take a breath in the next storm and imagine the Earth being angry at what’s been done to it, and get angry with it. The Earth is doing what she needs to do, destruction has been and will be caused along the way - so take that fear and join her in her fight. The more you know about the natural climate systems the more incredible it is to witness just the lengths she (the earth) goes to to keep herself powerful and in control. As scary as it is for us, I have found it more motivational and empowering than when I too was living in fear and riddled with anxiety about climate change 💙💙💙

casual reminder that reducing the video quality dramatically cuts the energy consumption of streaming a youtube video (the audio stays the same at any quality I think, so it makes sense for listening in the background) - adds a nice 8bit fuzz to the animation if you go right down to 144p

I thought this for a long time, too, but my understanding of that was based on (others' interpretation of) one particular study from The Shift Project ("Climate crisis: the unsustainable use of online video"), which was later updated to reveal that it'd made a fatal error regarding the amount of CO2 produced by mixing up "bit" and "byte," leading to a number blown out of proportion. I'm not entirely sure how out of proportion, nor if the updated result of CO2 produced is less of a concern--though intuitively, it seems to make sense that it would still be a concern? I don't know. Perhaps someone who's well-versed on this topic (bound to be someone here!) can shed some light on this. I would happily go back to 2007 KZbin aesthetics if it meant making a measurable difference
