The part at 2:28 is the most elegant display of I've ever seen of something I've always said for years; the bass is the key element of the music. If the bass is off, everything sounds off, cause everything is relative to the bass. I've never seen that better encapsulated than right there.

Golden tip @ 16:38 - Find a simple, interesting idea you can repeat, while you give your mind the time to scramble together a sick line. You might only hear the first few notes or a general idea in your head, but it's enough to get you to a point where your intuition catches up. That's why it's worth listening to, playing and generally soaking up different ideas. Try to hear the ways people have figured out how to play over different chords/movements and adopt, apply and make your own, the ones you like. And may as well try to discover your own ways to do, think about and hear things while you're at it!

Nice tip for the bassist to hold you’re ground when the soloist is going outside the scale. Just wondering if you have a system if the soloist just starts playing in an other scale. Is there a way improvising jazz players signal each other when they go up a third or something like that?

I think I'm still confused on why the e minor worked
@villehorila4895
@villehorila4895 10 ай бұрын
Well, E minor pentatonic has the notes E, G, A, B and D, which all belong to C major as well, so there are no notes "outside" the key. You have access to both the thirds of and major sevenths for both chords in this progression (A and E for Fmaj7, E and B in Cmaj7), so it's pretty easy to emphasize the harmony. As long as someone is playing the chord progression in a steady(ish) manner, you can get some nice melodies going even without having access to the roots of the chords. It makes for a pretty floaty sound without getting too weird. That's my take, anyway!
