We decided to make our own Loft bed for Joshua. Prices to purchase a bed like this range around $1000. We did it for just under $200.

How long was this 3 Hour project? As a master builder, This was great, but... here it goes!! LOL I have built decks around pools, 8 foot tall decks off of houses and on and on. This is just a deck. I am doing a garage conversion into a big kids off grid Bungalow for two boys. I Divided the garage into two seperate Spaces. I am putting in a queen size platform bed with cables. Then doing 4 step ladder, Shelves up top hext to the bed on both sides. My finished space is going to be 77 inches wide. The beds are 60 inches wide and so that just leavves us with 8.5 inches on each side of the bed. This design is simply for looks with cables, plus they are younger boys and can swing on them like kids do , I am sure!! haha I will make sure they are GOOD to go!!! Maybe!!! Anyway, I Stripped the garage on the outside and replaced windows, installed two front doors, 2 doggy doors, and framed the inside divideing wall, and had a electrician put in the electric everywhere needed. This is just a storage shed, right??? Thats right, hate to be accused of doing something that is not!!! Luxury Storage! ha Anyway, This book is getting long. Must be 2 minutes by now. Soooo Great Job, Keep having fun!! I am gifting these Kids with a early Christmas Present with their own space!! People need to build taller garages, so we can really have some fun though!! 8 Foot ceiling is just too low for the tiny Bungalow but, it will do just fine, I am sure. BTW... if I was racing to build the bunk bed with simple cables, I truely believe I could do it in ..... 1 hour. Impact Gun and Carraige bolts for the industal look, Nail Gun for the Framing and a PLAN OF ACTION.... This Marine Corps Vet with 30 years in Building is still having fun!! Sometimes!!!! This project is one of the most enjoyable projects to be working on. Peace and have a the best day of your life. GREAT JOB, KEEP HAVING FUN!!! LMK IF YOU NEED ANY HELP OR QUESTIONS EVER IN YOUR LIFE. LOL

That looks pretty nice! One thing I'll mention, not that it'll help since it's been a while since you made this, is that beds raised up off the floor are required to have a safety rail around the sides so someone doesn't fall out, in order to be legal. I'm a professional woodworker (a customer referred me to your video because she liked the French cleats you used) and this is a big liability for me, but it's still a good idea even if it's just for yourself.

With the ladder supporting the corner the cable is not needed and is the only thing stopping the bed being removed with crimps on the cable, with the french cleats it may as well be just screwed to the 2 walls with the same number of screws. I like the bed but with no ladder the cable would be needed but the cable needs to be cut to remove the bed leaving the cleats and i bolt or removing them and filling and painting the holes.

Yo agarre mi regla de madera y medi que de mi colchón y estirar mis brazos sentadita en la cama es 1,20 de altura más 20 CM de madera me quedaría solo 1 metro de altura desde el piso al altillo que podría hacer con eso?

So the cleats are attached to the top of the bunk? So the support planks are pretty much held on with vertical screws. Wouldn't this reduce the overall load distribution?? And why even do the cleats if this isnt regularly moved in some way. You are staying with cables crimped down which would mean it is pretty permanent. So you could have just screwed in the bottom planks directly into side walls for support and ended up with same ease of removability and better load performance. It would be good to know the benefits for this system and maybe get an update of how it held up with use.

Just wondering what the point is of the cable, and not having a corner post, when you put the ladder there anyway? Would it not have been cooler and more open to have it at the end? or did you need the extra strength ? Love the idea of no major beams and things holding it other than the wire, thats great! I possibly would have gone into the roof even for that myself (if it was strong enough)

I was thinking about that and is this frenck cleat the best way to fix the bed? Isn't possible the bed to escape it, knowing how wild a boy can be? Why don't screw it directly to the wall?
@jeremyedwards59506 жыл бұрын
Wally , the bed would have to defy gravity to come off the wall. it is in my opinion the best way. it minimizes damage to the wall. it makes the assembly of the frame very easy. thanks for watching. Jeremy

@jeremyedwards59505 жыл бұрын
broncoramfan , If you read the other comments you would see my answer to all of those questions. But here you go anyway. Cable because it is a wild boy who climbs all over it. No rails because how many times do you fall off your bed? Rails we're not necessary. The boy grew up and we've moved since then. The bed no longer exists. Thanks for watching and take care now. ✌️, Jeremy
