Those altoids were my step grandfathers favorite candy. He was one of my favorite people in the world. He died in December 2009. These were discontinued 3 months later. I had forgotten about them entirely until my mom found these at a local store a few days ago and mailed them to me. I just want to say thank you for your hard work, and thank you for the memories brought back.

I have a good idea of what they did wrong and why, they did it to keep the price down and because the equipment doesn't exist anymore. I built stuff myself. So yes I'm doing it right. If you want more of an amusement, compare my ingredient list to one of The originals. Photos are out there somewhere. And then compare it to the Chinese knockoff. They don't use the same ingredients. I do

I'm so glad that you're able to recreate these and will definitely be putting an order in. Please continue to make them through the holidays it would be an amazing Christmas gift for a lot of people. And I remember them using like a piece of tape that they taped on the rim of the lid where it touches the can. Not sure if you can replicate that or not. Maybe easier than shrink wrap though.

Always wanted to buy some of your stuff! now I have to because I love your solutions, you made it work very cleverly and better then it would have in the first place. I only ever had the citrus sours. I remember going into the local quick mart for candy as a kid with my brother and I saw one tin of these and thought it looked cool (I liked to collect Altoids tins). The lady gave them to us for free because she said they were probably expired. It's probably the only sour candy I ever liked, I'm sure that tin is lying around somewhere here. I know you probably don't want to start another project but there was a similar candy around the same time. Also came in a tin, same shape but they're raspberries with almost like a gel in the center. And they had like a powder coating over them however they weren't sour at all they just had that true raspberry taste. My mom and grandma used to have them in their purse and would squirrel them away and if we were really good we would get one. Or if we were being really bad they would give us one as a bribe.
