I’m glad that you have actually made them sour. I’ve tried many “dupes” of them and they never have any sour coating. They make them into basically just a orange hard candy

Exactly. I remember them being face pucker sour initially, every knockoff i tried it went away in seconds and was just like you said, orange hard candy at that point.

Those altoids were my step grandfathers favorite candy. He was one of my favorite people in the world. He died in December 2009. These were discontinued 3 months later. I had forgotten about them entirely until my mom found these at a local store a few days ago and mailed them to me. I just want to say thank you for your hard work, and thank you for the memories brought back.

I finally got to try these today. My husband was so happy to taste something from his childhood again and share a flavor with me that I somehow missed. It was unreal walking into the shop that I've watched in videos for about 6 years. Loved the shop, the ice cream, and of course the ice cream

I have a good idea of what they did wrong and why, they did it to keep the price down and because the equipment doesn't exist anymore. I built stuff myself. So yes I'm doing it right. If you want more of an amusement, compare my ingredient list to one of The originals. Photos are out there somewhere. And then compare it to the Chinese knockoff. They don't use the same ingredients. Stopped in and grabbed some of these this past Sunday. I have never liked hard candy. I bought these cause I love the shop and the channel. I ate one and it completely blew me away. The super face crunching sour then the delicious tangerine taste is without compare. Honestly one of the best candies I have ever eaten.

I don't know if you're going to read this or not but I used get my mom to buy me that candy almost every time we are at the store. I'm so glad that you're able to recreate these and will definitely be putting an order in. Please continue to make them through the holidays it would be an amazing Christmas gift for a lot of people. And I remember them using like a piece of tape that they taped on the rim of the lid where it touches the can. Not sure if you can replicate that or not. Maybe easier than shrink wrap though.

Loved this video. I haven't watched any of the Lofty Pursuits content in quite some time, although I always enjoyed the pleasant tone and just watching stuff get made. On that note, great to see some DIY "outside the box" thinking to address the need for a food safe tumbler, and the heating carousel, using recycled/repurposed parts to boot. Just loved it.

I love seeing all the creative solutions in this series! I'm amazed by your out-of-the-box thinking, it's really impressive to watch you find answers. It kind of reminds me of the scene from Apollo 13 where the engineers are given the box of parts availabe on the ship and asked to find a solution (which is my favorite part of the movie). Oh lord i have been keeping up off and on with this candy because its very nostalgic for me. I can't wait to be able to purchase and bring back some memories with my cousins. We used to always get these from the local gas stations. The tangerine and the lemon sours were some of my favorites. Awesome work guys!

Always wanted to buy some of your stuff! now I have to because I love your solutions, you made it work very cleverly and better then it would have in the first place. I only ever had the citrus sours. I remember going into the local quick mart for candy as a kid with my brother and I saw one tin of these and thought it looked cool (I liked to collect Altoids tins). The lady gave them to us for free because she said they were probably expired. It's probably the only sour candy I ever liked, I'm sure that tin is lying around somewhere here. Thank you for the memories throughout this video series!

I know you probably don't want to start another project but there was a similar candy around the same time. Also came in a tin, same shape but they're raspberries with almost like a gel in the center. And they had like a powder coating over them however they weren't sour at all they just had that true raspberry taste. My mom and grandma used to have them in their purse and would squirrel them away and if we were really good we would get one. Or if we were being really bad they would give us one as a bribe.
