But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

I think Matt has been looking for a larger more rural home / shop for a while. I really enjoyed watching April Wilkerson and Jay Bates making the move to bigger shops. I know there is a lot of good rural property available outside of the Twin Cities so I think it’s just a matter of time for Matt & family. Likewise, I think Jesse and Alyssa or Pure Living would be ahead of their home build if they first focused on a big shop build in order to clear out the basement and provide themselves a large covered area for their bigger equipment.

Matt, I built a trailer 22 years ago. I didn’t listen to anyone. I built it exactly as I needed it, a 18’ gooseneck to haul our speciality equipment to customer installs. Had I known then that it would become essentially my best friend, that it would never fail me, go across country many times maybe have 200,000 miles on it, and to this very day it is ready to call and haul...had I known all this 22 years ago I would have talked more lovingly to it as I built it. I am reminded of Scott Wadsworth’s “tool tank” on Essential Craftsmen. Another self-built old friend. Good for you!!

Add you a roller to the back of the trailer. It will allow the logs to roll on and not get caught on the back of the trailer. You can put the roller on the arch brackets. Simple to make out of 3" pipe

I am a fabricator. I like your work. A local fabrication company has a heavy tube bending machine. While this is not an option for everyone building an arch, it is a time saver and a little expensive for a one piece arch. I am looking forward to seeing the trailer get zinc dipped. When I watch your videos, I see myself 30 years ago.

I find it intriguing that stick welding is your welding type of choice. Not criticism at all, I just think it's interesting. Most fabricators and DIY-ers seem to prefer Mig for its "point-and-shoot" sort of nature, myself included.

Lots of work packed into 20 minutes! Excellent video, #MassiveMatt ! You can make slots without the drilling as you discovered. You can make slots on a manual knee mill by plunge cutting. On a knee mill that means raising the table and moving the end mill along either the X or Y axis. IF you can turn two handles at one time - you lock the quill, slowly raise the table as you move your end mill back and forth along the length of your slot (leave yourself some clean-up cuts for the end, like chiseling a slot). I always preferred spray Dykem, btw. It lays down better, imo...smoother even appearance...less splotchy. Great work on the horizontal mag-drilling, too. Thank you for the video!

Hi from the UK, over here we have what we call skip lorries, which pick up the massive open topped trash cans that builders use, they have a similar frame that work on hydraulics love the mag drill, im not sure if we have anything like that over here, i can think of many times id use one of those great work on the milling machine too

I’m a machinist and over 50 years this was the first time I’ve saw holes drilled instead of milling. You do things the way you want but the mill is made to do the cutting. The mill would make the cut in one pass, just take your time and use cutting oil. Be sure to undercut and not climb mill when machining on the edge of a piece. A lot of end mills are broken when climb milling or getting in a hurry. The first 4 pieces you welded had slots cut in them, why. The more you do the better you’ll get. The entire trailer, to me is well built. I love over building things so it don’t break. Stay safe

End mills getting dull quickly? You need a coolant mister. A cheapo mister is better than any hand held bottle and your cutters will last much longer. I've found that the misters with the plastic goosenecks are frustrating but a $50 Amazon mister with a metal gooseneck and an independent coolant control valve is a joy to use. You can reduce your air flow so that your compressor doesn't run all the time and cut back the coolant flow so that you're not maintaining a sloppy mess in your table yet your cutters stay cool to the touch and sharp.

Hardly. His carbide endmill isn't getting hot at those speeds. His endmill is likely getting dull because the corners are breaking down from the tiny depth of cut and relatively aggressive feed for such a slow speed.
@Ray_Sellner4 жыл бұрын
@@TheMetalButcher End mills get dull quicker when they have to cut through chips. Like they do when you paint cutting oil on them. A mister would wash the chips away.
