I drill out my boxes with a forestner bit and router it clean. Makes for a nice face around the plate cover

Great video and much appreciated. I purchased a shell log cabin without any holes pre-drilled and am trying to figure out how to run the electrical. I feel I can do this by cutting out for the boxes and drilling from the bottom up.

I have one electrical box opening on the face of a hand hewn log that is oversized and shows past the switch plate. Anything that can be done to fix it?

Can you let me know where you got the drill bits and extension for drilling out the walls? I'm struggling to find something long enough for my own hand built cabin. Thank you so much for the videos, I've been learning as many techniques as I can to accomplish my goal.

Who is the NEW GUY ??? :) I thought winter bears needed a fur coat to stay warm ! LOL On a serious note. You may want to try a "Forrester Bit" to remove your material after you make the plunge cuts. Works really well . Super clean.

Awesome skills with the chain saw, BUT have you thought of using a oscillating multi tool to plunge cut into the logs, way less chance of having a run away boo boo across the logs ?
@EssentialMountainHomesteading
@EssentialMountainHomesteading 7 жыл бұрын
jesper dahl That's a great idea, we tried the oscillating saw but the blade Would not let us go deep enough so we were back to the chainsaw

Are there log home kits that come numbered for placement and electrical holes and light switch placement already cut?
@EssentialMountainHomesteading
@EssentialMountainHomesteading 4 жыл бұрын
On this kit we had to cut our own boxes and drill holes

Lot of ways to do things better and easier.You need timberwolfs and impact guns for drilling and driving.Electric boxes cut in with dime tip carver,your boxes way over cut for cover plate.Put a cover on a box and use as jig to grind in.Use polye foam glue in assembley,but joints and copes.Log tongs to set logs on v strap set up.Most kit style log frames are laged together with a specified lags size per log size.

You must have some different code in USA, here we fix height of sockets axis 75 mm above FFL, all conduits run into floor and a only a small notch by chainsaw is necessary locally which is hidden later by skirting, anyway we do that for switches though, but it is done at fabrication stage ! Anyhow great job, it is interesting to see all those specifics.

Couldn't you set those logs with the sky lift and straps ? Easier and safer. maybe.

Hi does anyone know where they run the electricity from as I’m looking to build a cabin with its own electricity not electricity drawn from the house by a wire
@therealdiehl4671

There are quite a few negative comments about their methods. I think of some better ways too, but, their fit is very nice. They should have a really fine cabin when done.

Have to have a separate power source ran no matter where your dwelling is built. We have log house one one and separate pole for pole barn. Does NOT mean two separate meters or electric bills. Just means 2 separate. Power sources. Hence like building 2 building on the same city block and all ran/sourced off of main feed. New dwelling will HAVE to have its own breaker box and what not but we pay one bull for both . Hope this helps and makes sense

when you use metal parts inside exterior walls they sweat during winter...as the result you have wet house

Electrical wire should be run on the surface of the wall concealed in metal or plastic pipes much easier and no need to drill all those holes and damage the structural logs
