Bolting down the 1st few courses of logs will ensure that the entire log cabin is well connected to the foundation. Every good log cabin starts with his solid foundation that will allow you to build even a large cabin and feel Safe no matter what the weather throws at you.

what keeps the bottom logs that rest on the concrete from rotting? Trying to figure out how to tie in a timber frame to concrete and I am struggling with this part

I would suggest you find another site on how to build a log home, these guys are cowboys.

Personally I would put down a layer of self adhesive rubberized flashing directly on the concrete and then the standard mesh sill material then logs. Trim up after everything is tightened down, then you would have no wood to concrete contact and a moisture barrier too.

next time rent a stinger crane truck. no sense in potential bodily injuries that cost 10 times the rental cost.

Yep total safety fail right off the hop , no glasses , no face shells , no grinder guard , no ladder. Quite the operation you got going on there ...

How high were you going with the all thread? Seems to me that a couple of feet of all thread would be good, then use the connectors to screw in another two foot piece. Keep going up two foot until the wall is secured. Also, why large of a hole through the logs? The all thread is only 3/4" thick, so wouldn't a one inch hole be large enough? The explanation of the 13" screw was helpful in understanding the requirements of them tying the logs together. Plus it is incredible to see how much mold has accumulated on the first logs laid down. Will you have to go back and sand off the mold? That is a particularly dull process, sanding feet of logs to remove mold. ugh.

Not even a minute into the video and you have an employee im guessing cutting steel with no safety glasses. Dont you have labour laws and penalties there. You are posting this as evidence against you, sorry to say.

why are you tying these heavy logs to the foundation again? lmao a total waste of time. just drilling thru and hammering rebar thru 2 layers would do more than your all thread. but hey.... all thread away!

At r1 per inch, logs do not make for a well insulated house. and I know the customer wants what they want and you build what is requested..

I learned how to take the guard off the grinder and give it to a minor without safety glasses or a dust mask. Billions of particles of disintegrated cut wheel, dad needs a material data safety sheet on breathing steel and cut wheel particles. An OSHA 10 course would also help. C'mon dad.

Dad, what are you going to say to your son when he comes home from the hospital with only one eye? Think Mom might have an issue with that? Our freedoms must be connected to our responsibilities and I'm sorry but yours don't match up. "Mr. Trimmer" might not know of the danger, you should. I hope you understand I'm not kicking your nutsack for fun, we all get caught up with "gitter done"... but get the safety part done too.

If you have a home that’s built like this can you cut a hole in the exterior to add a door or widen a window?
@EssentialMountainHomesteading
@EssentialMountainHomesteading 3 жыл бұрын
most likely, but have an engineer do the calculations for the load above the door or window. You may have to reinforce around the opening.
