Quartz is the way to go! We have quartz in the kitchen and granite in our bathroom. We should have just used quartz in the bathroom too.

There was a British TV show called Grand Designs with Kevin McCloud. They featured custom homes like the woods mans cottage, a water tower home, an old mine home, a restored 13th century castle, architects homes, steel and glass homes and hundreds of others. It was done like a Ken Burns documentary. Your videos and your home would fit in and no one would better. The even featured dirt bag homes and others in Australia.

Cabinets look really good, I knew they were of good quality when you opened the door and I could see the center panels were reverse raised panel. Always a good sign! I was curious as to what hinges and drawer glides were used but that might not be immediately apparent. Since they are Amish made it is possible the drawers are true dovetails. These days most cabinet companies who advertise dovetailed drawers are actually using a router to cut the dovetails. While this is certainly a stronger option than lap jointed drawers, they only look like true dovetailed construction which cannot be done with a router and jig. I love stained wood cabinets, most I sell and design these days are painted maple, what a waste to hide all that beautiful wood....but Ash, Hickory , and Quartersawn Oak are my favorites. Lookin good!

TheMusicWell, the hinges and draw slides are slow close. And the you can reach under the drawer and squeeze some triggers and the drawer comes right off the slide. I am going to guess these are routered dovetails. But w very thing is built really well.

Yes those drawers will last... Blum's Blumotion are the hinges and glides I recommend. Sounds like them or a similar option from another company. I wasn't suggesting anything was cheaply done, they look very nice and well built. ;)

Wow, the kitchen looks *Gorgeous!* Those cabinets are Lovely. I don't know if it would be the most cost-effective option, but maybe you could try to get the bar stools Amish-made also? :)

Beautiful. At first, I didn't think there was enough contrast between the cabinets and the walls, but the varnish brought them out beautifully. On a side note, y'all are gonna have to step up your game! You've hit the big time now! No more muddy work boots at the door! lol. And your wife is gonna have to learn some Martha Stewart tricks for hiding the dish soap in plain sight. One of your many drawers can surely hold your dish towels and pot holders. And hang that dishrag underneath the sink somewhere - out of sight! I know it'll take a lil time for y'all to get more used to living the high life, but y'all have moved on up! (Don't take offense. I mean no harm. I am very, very happy for you two. Everything is coming together beautifully! Stay Blessed!

@@CountryViewAcres I love the way you reply. I have a nice kitchen and I mustn't have stepped up cuz my dish soap and rag are visible...just goes to show you the difference between a true working farm house and a play farm. My boots are at the door too. Also I LOVE the purple 💜 oven! My favorite color too!

@wingsley
@wingsley 5 жыл бұрын
Cabinets and island really neat. You didn't put a vent in over the cooktop?
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 5 жыл бұрын
no I did put a vent above the cooktop. with the vaulted ceiling it would have looked weird. .. I cook on it everyday it hasn't been an issue not having a vent. I wouldn't change a thing.

What makes you think they're rich? They both have jobs! The wife works nights, my guess is she is a nurse. They have made a plan and executed it!

Yea, me and my wife both work and she is a nurse. It taken us since 2010 to get to this point. That we we started getting out of debt and saving to move to the country. Over 8 years of living on a budget to get here.

Is the installation of the cabinets done in any special way to account for the eventual settling of the log home? I’m curious about this as I’ve heard there’s a certain amount of settling over the years which may cause some compression. Or are the cabinets installed the same way as any regular stick frame house? Thanks.
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 5 жыл бұрын
My log home, isn't a true log home. It is log siding inside and out. It won't have any settling issues. One of the main reasons I choose this type of log home.

How are venting that cook top??
@hxFubar
@hxFubar 6 жыл бұрын
They look great. I kept waiting to see a view from the loft to see how they finished the tops and how it looks from above. Did they put some 1/8th inch plywood on top or does it step down? Anyways, place is looking great!
@CountryViewAcres
@CountryViewAcres 6 жыл бұрын
Fred Ubar, the top of the cabinet just has the crown molding and steps down to the top of the cabinet. They left me a can of stain, but I still haven't stained the top. I will probably show the top of the cabinets in the staircase and balcony railing video.
@hxFubar
@hxFubar 6 жыл бұрын
They should do it, i hate when they push stuff off like that. Make sure you also put a finish over it after you stain it or the rough wood will be a dust collector and not easy to wipe off.
