But then they shot themselves in the foot with the ending showing that they failures of the test literally are just sent to work, producing the tablets that are used for the test. You could paint that as a reflection of society where the lower-scoring people have to work menial jobs (line worker, shelf-stacker, etc.) that are generally considered undesirable by the rest of the general public, while the more intellectually gifted go on to bigger things such as science, finance, etc. But when the idea of your film is "if you aren't smart enough for this test, you will literally die" it really shoots the whole premise in the foot by meaning the stakes are basically non-existent now. @Dr.Oofers Жыл бұрын
Well the whole point is that parents keep having kids, and more kids means bigger population. They probably have the death penalty for more prisons in an event like this. But that only solves a portion of the problem. Agricultural exports makes the most sense, yet at the same time, with the world dwindling on resources due to population, that likely includes land. Not just in the US but the rest of world.

@aceambling76853 жыл бұрын
Wasn't bad... Wasnt good either, the problem with "overpopulation" movies is that historically that kind of thing tends to sort itself out. Malthusian pressures are cyclical and inevitable, when you have a surplus of young people it causes socio-political instability, which typically triggers a cascading failure of social systems, which causes mass death, reducing the surplus population to manageable levels. Basically shit would hit the fan before overpopulation could become drastic enough for the UN to issue a population control mandate.
@aceambling76853 жыл бұрын
Also the Overpopulation scare is always done from the perspective of global population, neglecting the divergent realities of demographics. Europe, China, Russia, and Japan all have below replacement level birthrates, the US has a healthy birthrate and plenty of free livable land. The only truly overpopulated places are in the third world, where populations have boomed due to economic and agricultural factors, but poverty has only grown because of corruption and autocracy. Ex. Egypt, which will likely collapse into civil war/revolution in the near future, as the youth population is massive and extremely poor.

No, it is not. Because, the parents would buy the answers. Politicians - presumably democratically elected - would accept bribes from the guards, or bribe the guards. The guards would have children as well. The entire premise is so unutterably stupid that only a really stupid person would conceive of it as being a passable plot for a film.

@connorripley123 жыл бұрын
@@jimreily7538 Well no. What do you think a DYSTOPIA is? This is much like The Hunger Games but instead of physical survival, its intellectual survival. The government would be tyrannical so they won't be democratically elected and therefore will not accept bribes from ordinary citizens and because they will run the ruling class. Now i can grant you that the guards and government may have children and that is the only loophole i can find, but as they are literally the ruling class, the rules will not apply to them. The idea is actually a very frightening abstract as it is literally invoking eugenics, passing on the intellectual genes for a "greater" society. The execution of the film is poor, the only redeeming quality is the idea.

I like how all of these teenagers fighting the guards are somehow jacked enough to beat the shit out of grown men with batons that are probably put through military training.
