What a Kafka reference, Matt! Logan's Run seems VERY derived from Huxley's _Brave New World._ 11:24 & 11:40 - That ice cave of frozen people looks so cool and cinematic actually for a movie filled with a lot of cheese.

Thanks for picking this one guys. One of my favorite movies as a kid. I even bought a Rocket tubes toy kit that had a little car that shot through it after this came out, like the movie. That was for for about an hour. I think the movie holds up well, other than the mixed special effects of course. Some good, some bad. I don't remember much about the TV series. Michael York and Jenny Agutter made this better than it might have been. Plankton, fish from the sea.

Have you guys seen "City of God " ? It might well be the best Brazilian movie ever made , even though Brazil doesn't have any tradition in making great movies , this one is really good and shows really well the obstacles and soul of the people living in Rio de Janeiro at the time , a beautiful city but so raw and violent at times hat you might as well be at a warzone .

10:20. In some versions, "Holly Thirteen", does not get crushed by the big door. I guess it depends on how each local station edited the movie for content. But I mean, that I think there is one where she simply gets shot directly. Another, where she escapes too. 😒

This movie was meant to be the director's clap back to 2001 Space Odyssey. He hated it SO much that he made Logan's Run. Keeping Space Odyssey in mind during the watch I had to think even though there's parts of the Odyssey scenery that are considered higher quality than what you get in Logan's Run I prefer the character developments in Logan. In Space Odyssey you remain the outsider of the whole thing watching this bizarre plot unfold. It's a give and take on both. Plot wise, Logan's run was more fun when they reach the frozen place and onward.

Curious to find what happened to Mary 2 (the dirty face little girl) turns out she has over 33 film/acting credits. Last being in Airplane here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mXa5hYR-nqaEiKM But after 1990 she evidently grew tired of acting and when to a university, and was never heard from again.

FUN FACT: in the novel you lived until 21 not 30 as in the movie. I always felt that Michael Anderson, the director (still around at 96), never really understood science fiction. After Logan's Run he directed The Martian Chronicles for TV (Rock Hudson) and that was equally clunky in its storytelling. His previous successful movies from the 1950/60s were told in a more documentary matter-of-fact style which didn't work too well for his science fiction projects.

To be fair though, they were worried about trying to cast all the actors as 21 or younger for this film as they were worried they wouldn't find enough quality actors at the time. Not a bad compromise I feel, though the adaptation of this story is...not quite up to speed really. The comic book adaptation from a few years ago is really rather good though.

SEEN IT: The 2005 Pride & Prejudice? Whenever I realize that characters in a film are explaining to other characters, things that aren't common knowledge to many viewers... but that *_are_* common knowledge to those in the film... it takes me right out of the film. For example. In the 2005 Pride & Prejudice, there is a scene where Elizabeth is having a discussion with her friend, Charlotte, about the dreaded cousin that is coming to visit... the cousin who is to inherit their estate when their father passes away. Elizabeth says, ""He may turn us out of the house as soon as he pleases." Charlotte asks, "But why?!" Elizabeth responds, "Because the estate passes directly to him and not to us because we're females." Every adult of that time period understand that, and does not require an explanation, because it is common knowledge. Charlotte being baffled by the idea was not fitting for a person who lived during that time period... it didn't ring true. Despite a couple of those moments, I thought the film was, otherwise, fantastic. What are _your_ thoughts?

7:48. Not knowing if you will talk about it or not, I thought that I would inform you two about something. (Ahem.) In the movie and in the "CBS" series, 30 was the deadline age. That means that at 15, you were Middle Age! But guess what! In the novels that inspired the movie, the final age is 20! So 10 is Middle Age! Just like "Mary 2", is in the scene, if I recall right. That scene reminded me of one of the big differences between the source material and the movie. Another is, in the novels it was the whole planet, not just one city. The newer movie, "The Island", with Shawnee Smith, has scenes in it, that seem to be taken from the novel. The sitcom, "Mork & Mindy", it reused the, City of Domes, as the planetary capital for, Planet Ork, but with a red sky.

"Moon" is really a great choice, as well as a popular suggestion. I loved that movie. Little known fact: the director is the son of Starman: Ziggy Stardust. So sci-fi was sort of an inside job for him. I don't think they've mentioned Mr. Nobody in any of their segments.

I just want to say that your channel is a breath of fresh air compared to the countless movie critic channels here on KZbin. That's not to say that the others are no good. In fact I personally like almost anyone who takes the time to review any film , To either sing its praises, or warned me of its mediocrity. I love the fact that you guys include some what of an element of surprise by having one of you, or both of you, that see the movie before hand. It makes the reviews a bit more natural, and it really shows your talent for riffing the film off the cusp. You guys crack me up.
