Great video, when i was a kid my step dad was a logger up in Wyoming through out the 90's and early 00's. He had a red timber jack skidder, when i was 9 he (made) me drive that thing a little up a logging road, i was scared to death😅. This vid brought back some great childhood memories. We'd camp out up in the mountains for a month or so at a time for his logging, good times. Most people have never heard of a skidder but its still my favorite and most bad#ss machine of all time.

Hi, We have a 460 DA, Jack, havent rolled it yet. On some of them the wheels can B turned around, so the dish is in 4 narrow, and out 4 wide. The ground clearance is high, and they will pull a big stack. We sometimes use the grapple, then hook up 4 more with the winch. Our old JD 640 cable, is a good all around skidder 2.
@logdog89204 жыл бұрын
Sounds like U do a little bit of everything.Its good that U dont have to rely completely on logging. We have a pretty good 18' mat log market, also rail road 8'8", tie market, here in west Wisconsin.

Yes luckily I dont have all my eggs tied up in the logging industry, but it still hurts when things tank like they are... Are the rail ties hardwood?
@logdog89204 жыл бұрын
@@mccormickfamilyfarm5511 Hi, Things "tanked", back in about 08, even at times before that. Markets will eventually improve. We R also into Excavating/Bulldozing/Rock Trucking, mostly Ag and Township, work, so we have that 2 take up da slack. Yes ties R hardwood mostly #2 & #3, oak, maple, ash, hickory, cherry, birch, etc. Back a few years I bought a Bell 3 wheeler, cutter from a logger at Grey? In south east Maine. You ought to look into getting one of the new Stihl 3 in one sharpeners. I decided to try one and found it well worth the money. They sharpen the cutters and drop the rakers at the same time. Be sure you get the right pitch for the chain. I use to drive a Timberjack, an older version of yours, many, many years ago. The sad thing the owner of the company was one of these guys who "ran it until it broke." That's why I left. Saying hi from NH.
@mccormickfamilyfarm55114 жыл бұрын
I guess i need to get one of those sharpeners, ive heard from several other people who swear by them as well. Its a shame, unfortunately a lot of these old machines were just run into the grave by previous owners...
@Canopus684 жыл бұрын
@@mccormickfamilyfarm5511 Yeah I like old stuff. I still have my third chain saw. It ran great until my son borrowed it. He cuffed it with a small tree and cracked the gas tank. It's a Stihl 031. I had an 030 before that. I've forgotten the make of my first saw--that was close to 50 years ago.
@jsnowstorm13114 жыл бұрын
Find a piece of 2inch pipe about 3ft long weld a 4x4 inch on the ends then two short chains. Bolt that under the arch. Then put half your cables on one side the other half on the other and let your last cable drag. Much quicker hanging your cable in the slot. Plus when pulling winch cable the slides will usually stay put

Holy cow, I've been waiting for videos for months, thought you quit lol. Love your vids...keep em coming. It's been mighty hot and logging is hard to handle in the heat.
