I had my 3 acres logged (May 2024). June 2021 was a major wind storm and tipped over 15 rootballs. There were soooo many trees fallen on each other the deer couldn't travel through my woods. Stump totals were 24 black cherry (many were Y x3 and x4 at 1 stump), 5 Pin Oak and 1 Ash. the loggers cut. All were sold for "blocking". There is zero market for these species. 105 "logs" (sections) were hauled out on straight trucks. I gained an access path, a tree leaning towards our garage was taken and after the loggers took their share, a lil money. A win win for me. I now have a possibility of a food plot and more firewood than I can shake a stick at.

Ive been hunting these Allegheny 'clear cuts' for years. I love hearing this information, it all helps find the hot spots. Living in Texas the last 30 years, I just wish I had more time to scout them.

I love that our deer herd is starting to prove people wrong who have said Pennsylvania is incapable of producing large or even good antlers. Imagine seeing a deer herd with a much higher amount of 5 or 6 year old bucks. Would we be as good as Midwestern states? No I don't think so, but we would produce a lot more 140 - 160 inch antlers than anyone would ever consider possible here and we would start seeing more Booner class deer pop up as well. I think if Pennsylvania is capable of producing 400"+ elk then we should be more than capable of producing nice mature bucks. Especially with the work being highlighted in this video. The genetics will continue to correct themselves putting the nutrition where deer can reach it should do the rest.
