This was very insightful. I will say this: I think the better DAW conversation is based on your genre/style of music and production. If you're someone who is leaning more towards loop-based recording and production, then Ableton is a better option, especially if you buy into the ecosystem they've created with their hardware and software integration. If you are recording more audio or non-loop midi production, then Logic is probably the better of the two options. I appreciate Logic trying to cater more to the urban producer but they still have a ways to go if they want to be competitive in this market and audience. However, I'm still #TeamLogic lol

I know Ableton Live might have the edge when it comes to audio manipulation, but for loop-based production, I think Apple Loops is really convenient. Any loop in the library will automatically match the tempo and the key of the project. Not only when you drag it, but also during playback. I find this extremely useful and time-efficient when it comes to throw ideas.

Logic Teacher here On ChromaGlow It's kinda difficult to know what it's doing if you have other distortion/saturation plugins on the track like pedalboard and overdrive. On editing Midi you can set the changing of grid values to a key command it makes it so much easier On editing drums, it is a lot easier to get the sound you're going for in the step sequencer than in the standard key editor
@Yhuntermusic7 ай бұрын
Nice!!! Now the drum kit "Chopped Up" had those plugins on it by default to make the "sound" of the kit, if that makes sense? That being said, applying ChromaGlow "should" enhance the sound that was already built with the prior plugins. Same thing applies to Ableton, the drum kit "Diverge Kit" already had stock plugins on it to make up the sound of the kit. Roar enhanced what was already there.. Put your brother on game about the grid value changes in Logic lol!! Step sequencer is also a good strategy! Well done fr fr!
@VEXUS9207 ай бұрын
@@Yhuntermusic No problem at all only here to help! I hear you about the enhancements but depending on the type of saturation (Odd vs even harmonics, oversampled or not, etc. ) the other plugins are creating it may clash making the sound overly distorted or too rich.

people underestimate session view big time, i was one of those people, mainly because many producers say you dont need session view... But in my opnion its great, especially when starting a track. you can get ideas going quickly, then you can use sessions to figure out the song structure, when you have start in session view inspiration comes much faster and you really get a feel for what the buildups breaks and drops need and when they should happen, i love session view now. It's also just more fun, messing with stuff live instead of programming in different tracks and transitions.

I started with fruity loops in high school, still use it but been using Logic for a couple years now too. I feel like fruity loops is more easier to cook up on and I know it like the back of my hand, but I don’t think my beats export with that sound I’m looking for, that loud, crisp quality sound. Logic is just more simpler looking to me and has some cool features too, but the beats don’t have that BANG like on FL. I’ve been seeing a lot of people using Ableton more now and a lot of my favorite producers, and I like how you can switch to a whole different beat immediately in those different columns like how Timbaland does on some of his videos. Then paired with the push that shit is fire. So I’m torn right now between all 3 lol, but I wanna try Ableton out.

That’s how I was too! Switched to logic when FL wasn’t supported on osx yet (ran it in parallels). I’m switching to Ableton from Logic now. One thing in Logic is you don’t have to go to the top to change the grid for extra notes like you showed at the end of the video. In the piano roll click “time quantize” and go to the note length you want. I use the brush tool and not the pencil tool, but yea you can just brush in the notes and keep your original piano roll grid at 1/16th the entire time. So try clicking like 1/16 triplet or 1/32 triplet and it’ll brush little small notes in there. Hope this helps.

Connection to interface is straightforward in no more than 2 (two) clicks and bam. Saving time is very important for creativity. File transfer, drag and drop sound, and other workflows is unbeatable. Logic is pretty much has its own setting that gave me hard time to do that. Come on Apple. But recently, I started using my Logic to replace my Technics Arranger keyboard after new update for Arranger Band. This is sick. I use it a lot at church. For this, I use my Logic on iPad, and use recording and main stuff using Ableton. Great video man, Like and AUTOSUBSCRIBED. 👍🏼

Hi! I'm a minimalist composer and I can't decide if I want Logic or Ableton. Can you give me some help on what to pick? I don't know what the genre I make is, but it is very down to earth. It feels more like an "art" piece more than an actual song. Usually consists of traditional elements such as violin and piano. But once in a while I like to add some ambient touches and delve into some sound design in order to make it feel more ephemeral. An example, listen to [VOISART - Like Glass] (if you want to of course.) But that is usually the type of music I make. Which should I choose? I'd very appreciate if you'd help me on this decision.

@kasra4134Ай бұрын
For the drum splitting (and a lot more), Logic came up with Step Sequencer much like Fl studio *4* years ago!! Most of the issues or inconveniences you described for Logic have been resolved for a long while or can be done by 1 or 2 setting adjustments. In fact, most DAWs nowadays can be changed to act or look like each other relatively easily. It’s mainly their original default behavior that’s different. But for drums, Logic has become superior to most DAWs for years! They did their version of what made FL Studio great for drums and did it even better. Not to even mention Logic’s super intelligent Drummer and its capabilities that literally no other DAW offers rn. It comes with a decent library for drum sounds and can also add your own to any part. I cannot make drum patterns for the life of me, mostly because I’m lazy lol. Drummer has all kinds and styles that you can find one that’ll be almost completely fitting for what you’re looking for, and then turn it into midi section or Sequencer if you want to do some fine edits for yourself. That said, over half the time, you could get exactly what you want without manual editing at all! It’s customizations are unbelievable. You never expect an AI drummer to be that good. For me, that’s the biggest reason I use Logic to begin with! Even tho my Mac is very old and I got a much more capable Windows laptop. I also tried all the ‘best’ but few AI drummer plugins out there. Not even close. Logic’s not just automatic, it also matches the patterns and styles with your own project and other instruments! You can also just choose to follow a single track (midi or audio) instead. Like your bass track for kick patterns. I cannot say enough about Drummer. Even without the sequencer you can STILL do what you wanted by adding a few shortcuts! As for remote abilities, I agree. That’s probably one of very few things where Logic is actually behind others but that’s just not what it’s mainly used for. DAWs have become more and more similar or able to become similar with time, but they still tend to each specialize ‘more’ in some things. For example, Logic is decent for live action, DJing, and remote work (even that wasn’t possible until couple years ago), but most people would just use Ableton for that purpose. Overall, it’s now more about personal taste than anything, but I personally find Logic’s workflow to be a lot more logical and efficient. But again, you can now ALMOST change most DAWs to act or even look close to Logic or others if you want to
@pheal7 ай бұрын
Great video, thank you! At the end of the day, both DAWs are excellent and I think it depends mostly on the style of music you make and the way you like to work. I used Live Suite for 10 years and made a full switch to Logic Pro last year because I find it more useful for the way I make music. I never liked Ableton session view that much, fun to create loops but I'm much more productive in arrangement view, and I prefer the UI and workflow of Logic. I tried Push 2 but after the short honeymoon phase, I never really gelled with it as working with a mouse and keyboard + controller/16 pads is way more faster and pleasant for me. But if you mainly make loop and/or sample based music, I can totally see why you would prefer Ableton, it's a fantastic DAW.

"Most people do not like the session view in Ableton"....😅. One of the first things I do is go straight to arrangement view. As someone who remembers Ableton from way back when I got the lite version with my sound card, it has always felt more like a DJ's DAW that evolved into include more Midi production. I think Session View is great if you want to trigger clips/loops and use it "Live", but I prefer arrangement view for production. There are things that I like better about each. I like Logic and the traditional Linear view/style. I think Logic has better stock sounds also and is the overall better value price wise assuming you have a Mac. I think Ableton is better for clicking in your drums and such, much better than Logic. I think the drum rack system is better if you understand it and sampling in Ableton is shutting down a lot of the competition.

One thing that we have to remember is that Apple is in the business of selling hardware and they don’t really make all of their money from “Software.” If that was not the case, then, they will be charging us for all of their OS releases and everything else like Pages, Numbers, etc. You can’t even use Chroma-glow if you don’t have an M1 in your computer, so they are already forcing you to buy one more thing (FOMO). And let’s face it, they already got you with the smart phone, smart watch, iPad, laptop, etc and etc, so a mere $200-$300 dollars ain’t worth a headache for them, plus, Piracy isn’t a force to be reckon with, they’ve just chosen to ignore what the rest of these poor developers have to deal with. Apple computers have always been a staple in every studio because Protools was first released in an Apple computer. Back then, Apple knew that Logic was the obvious choice to close the ecosystem and retain better user data. Logic was also Apple response to the overwhelming and growing community of home recording musicians who could barely afford an MacBook and an Audio interface. Let’s be honest, Logic isn’t hitting the same as it used to, maybe it might work for you, but to me, it has turned into another “App” that happens to have AU plugins and Touch functionality. I still love Apple products, but I’ll stick to Ableton + Push for my creative workflow. Peace.

I don't know bout this comparison... is not apples to apples. b4 anything in terms of saturation is applied there's some type of processing going on in Ableton that wasn't happening in logic. The sound coming from Logic was not only thicker but sounded as if limiting was taking place.
@Yhuntermusic7 ай бұрын
Fair on the “Apples to Apples”. There was nothing on the master fader(s) in each DAW. No limiting at all. Just the RAW sound of each..

@@rexhialiaj3075 it really does depend on what you’re using it for. Ableton has worse plugins though and you have to pay the upgrade fee for every new edition that comes out. That’s why I switched to logic tbh. The upgrade fee was basically the same price as the pro apps bundle for education. I do prefer the UI of Ableton though and the raw audio/midi editing it offers. Ableton is also just so fucking easy to DJ with, even though there’s no stem splitter :(.

when 2 things are being compared, use "than". in all other cases, use "then". less than, greater than, better than. you're welcome.

@@declanagee2806 Ableton fx blow logic fx out of the water logic has no custom folder searching and looking for file or sample you pick certain ones from different folder. Ableton loads all your folder which is much quicker. The vocal chop blow logic out of the water. Logic as daw sounds better. I haven’t used logic since 2016

Comparing Roar to ChromaGlow is like comparing a MacBook Pro to a MacBook Air; it's unfair because they serve different purposes. Roar is a multiband distortion, whereas ChromaGlow is something entirely different. Logic’s Clip Distortion is somewhat similar to Roar but lacks the multiband capability.

I see your standpoint! It's the new featured plugins that both DAWs were emphasizing.

Not sure if it sounds better as much as the sounds selection sounds better. Logic ought to be ashamed of themselves for letting Chromaglow go out there in a world where Roar exists...I'm embarrassed for them.

I love Ableton for live application, but for tracking Logic is king. The price of logic can't be beat by Ableton. $200 vs $800 plus paying for updates. Ableton should be waaaay better but its not. Ableton does have a sound but you can get that sound in logic 11. Alot of people use 3rd party plug-ins so if you don't like chroma glow its not a deal breaker. With Serato sample, the stem separation, and a 3rd party controller from Akai, or Native instruments Logic is hard to beat. If Logic makes a native controller its a wrap.

I’m confused. You prefer Ableton because it has branded hardware? Logic doesn’t need dedicated hardware because you can use almost any hardware or just use the iPad as an instrument. Ableton doesn’t have a great non-hardware interface. That’s a deficit. Logic for the win in this matchup💪🏾 Now if you wanted the easy win, live looping is Ableton’s secret sauce over logic. Logic just doesn’t do it as well. But the hardware gear is an option not a benefit IMO
