You CAN edit the plugins in the mixer. There is a button for edit mode.

Some pointers here. You can change plug-ins slot, if you want to move a plug-in up or down, just tap on the "+" icon in the mixer window. You can also do this by tapping on the pencil while in plugins tiles view.

Funny how many people say “this is not pro, I worked on the computer for years and that is pro”, like when something new comes around and all the older people say “we don’t need that, I work like this for years”. And when you work in a fancy studio, this is not for you and I would stick to my computer too. Burt let’s be honest, most (professional) musicians don’t have a lot of money to spend and I use the Ipad for years because the plugins and other apps are so cheap that the Ipad pays for itself. And I get professional results. So for all of us that don’t have lots of money to spend, and never had the money to buy an expensive computer with expensive plugins, or work in some fancy studio this is big and yes, it is pro because I can get pro results with it.

There is a huge amount of great plugins on iOS, lot of them made exlusively only for iOS.. you just must accept you have on iOs different plugins than on desktop - but amount of them is very big and quality too …

excellent review John! i aggree on everything. but lets not forget, this is the first serious DAW software taylored specificly for iPad, and it is here to stay. i think this starts a new era, it will only get better from here.

Incorrect. Cubasis is. Ie Cubase and it’s better and not subscription

I think you’re totally missing the point, it’s not meant to replace logic on the computer. But it’s a great way to start ideas and to fiddle around. Come up with something - Nobody said you have to complete a mix on it, but you can have a demo mix easily done

Looks like a fancier version of Garage Band. Have you tried Cubasis for iPad? There is not a lot of $$$ in providing plugins for iOS.

I travel a lot for me it's a dream come true I'm usually on the road with my macbook or with a grove box it saves me space again

I am making music on iPad for 13 years … my choice number one is Nanostudio2 … the level of how intuitivide is it’s UI is many orders of magnitue above Logic .. yes it lacks few festures (which i doesn’t need so don’t care), but for me is best DAW on iPad … made pretty a lot of full length tracks with it …

Auria and🎉Cubasis are a great alternative too. Auria is a bit unstable though, and it has a couple of bugs since a couple of years ago 😢😢 Right now im searching for the most affordable iPad that can handle Logic Pro with a decent number of plugins 👌🏻👌🏻

It should not be that difficult for all the developers to wrap their existing AU plug-ins to make them AUv3. However, I don’t think they will because they do not want to give Apple a cut of their profits since it will have to be distributed through the App Store.

Thanks for your input. I have both but like you said MacBook has more options. I have fab filters interesting suite plus isotope and I’ll be wasting time and money.

I would say you do not have to get used to it. You can choose to not spend your money and show companies subscriptions are not what we want.

I think its super amazing everyone is so hard on it but its the first actual daw on the iPad u have to give it some time

It’s not the first daw on the iPad. There is Cubasis, Auria, BeatMaker, NanoStudio, Drambo, Loopy Pro and Garage Band and even FL Studio Not to mention several multi-tracking apps. I think Logic Pro for iPad is better than Cubasis 3 (and definitely better than Garage Band), but they all share the mentioned problem of a „chaotic“ screen. The only app I know that can handle stacked plugin windows is the modular mixer AUM. You can even remotely open and close the plugins with a hardware controller. Hopefully Apple finds a way to do this.

Can Logic on iPad send a designated track to a specific output port on the interface? For example, sending the guitar track to output port 3 on the interface.

Thanks for the great video. I am a 100% Cubasis 3 user with no intention of moving over to Logic Pro, I am interested in hearing of LPs restrictions compared to Cubasis, there is definitely too much clutter in LP. You mentioned the fact that a number 1 top hit record can be produced in LP, this is also true with Cubasis3…..and without a subscription, in my honest opinion the workflow in Cubasis looks smoother and clear. I enjoyed your take on the restrictions to LP on iPad, for many this won’t be a problem, but for me Cubasis will always be the way to go.

Will we see such a sample browser in Logic as it is in, for example, ableton? Latest versions of LPX are terrible, lots of bugs, broken features...

Great review. I agree with all your points. Also, Thunderbolt interfaces like Universal Audio Apollo, are not compatible with iPad. Plus, top pro plugins producers, like Native Instruments, Nexus or Serum, are not available (and there’s no announcement yet). Perhaps you can make a pro house or r&b beat on it, using stock plugins. But you won’t obviously mix a hype vocal trance or hard techno on it. For that matter, I’ll keep my M2 MacBook Pro.

totally agree with UI problem where you can have opened all views simultaneously and you neeed to resize them all the time … VERY bad UI choice feom apple … also stock plugins UI is sbsolute mess - just endless scrollong throught endless lost of generic looking knobs and sliders .. for example Sculpture on iPad is unusable thanks to UI

Couldn't agree more with your verdict! For working 'off the grid' even the now 'old' M1 Macbook Air (yeah - the one without the fan!!) seems a far better option.

I agree on all your opinions, it’s exactly what I thought. The display is cluttered. Knowing that much of our investment in plugins is not there on the iPad. I know everyone wanted pro apps on the IPad but the subscription was a shame. It’s so powerful yet such a clusterf#*k at the same time. So cool but a shame. I think Apple need to look at how their eco system is their bottleneck for pro work. If the plugins could work, this would be a game change in the making, a larger IPad and it could work. The softwares great but the way it’s running needs a different mindset. I think it will be a flop despite how deep it is.
