I hear ya. Bought a M2/1TB iPad just for logic. Keep trying it but I never feel creative using Logic on iPad. I think it is stress. Stress kills creativity, and having to deal with the file system and no headphone jack adds stress to that workflow. For making music, the money I spent on the iPad would have been better spent on a M2 Air with a headphone jack and extra Thunderbolt ports.

I do appreciate they they finally have Air Drop working well enough that I can more easily transfer files between iPad and MacBook. lol.

@@digitalhillbilly8863 the Anker is as small as a mobile phone battery bank with usb and card inputs and a headphone socket it’s very portable, you’re not going to be walking along making music you will be sat somewhere etc.Even with a laptop you will still have a small controller in the bag surely.I don’t have any problem with the file system this way to be fair I just use a usb stick. For me spending an extra grand for the MacBook Pro and loosing touch screen just don’t make sense but everyone is different I suppose. I’ve never really considered the MacBook Air I will look at that thanks for the food for thought😎

Yeah, I switched back to Beatmaker 3 a while back. It wasn’t it. It’s great to see you as a Logic user being honest. Two of your issues were Apple iPad specific. I use the last Air because it has headphone Jack. Apple crazy to go away from it.

Beatmaker 3 file management is crazy too. Importing or using import folders is not the way either. I think it is more of an iPad issue with file browsing. As for the computer version file browsing is great, but file previewing is the problem. It seems to only want to play 16 bit, some 24bit and it is very slow at that here and there. Definitely seems like easy fixes for all.

I like it. I’ve used all the DAWs but recently started really using GarageBand more. Obviously GB doesn’t have a master fader but Logic solves that problem. If I strictly want to play Loopy Pro is my go to. But I’ve found using GarageBand I can transfer projects back and forth from the phone to the iPad and when I’m ready for the master mix I can just open it up in Logic and finish. Audio Evolution is pretty good also. I think it comes down to what trade offs you’re good with but they all work. No matter the method just love what you do.

I bought an iPad Air Gen4 just to use BeatMaker3 and some of the other great as the apps on iOS. But, having only 1 USB-C port is nothing short of crippling. The amount of external dongles, cables, gadets, etc really does make a laptop seem far more practical. I keep hoping I'll find that one, single USB-C device to handle all the I/O but still waiting. Love your content, Bolo. Stay up!

Despite the frustrations you mentioned Logic still is amazing.. I actually use BM3 and Logic together and it's a great workflow in my opinion. But yea Bolo I agree they need to address the issues you touched on especially the headphone jack lol

After I demoed Logic I ended up going back to BM3. I still use Logic on desktop so I still have access to some of those really cool features. BM3 still lets me sample my IAA apps, so I wanna keep that around, but definitely curious to see how you combine the two in a workflow. Cheers 👋

I use the app as an instrument when I play keyboards live. Hammond B3-X is fire, and having that on a small ipad instead of a large laptop is awesome, except for the damn usb c output which requires an external soundcard because you have to charge the ipad while you use it or the battery will die.

Sadly BM3 has too many glitches still from exporting multi tracks to midi fx not showing up in track area. You gotta use midi routing programs to get midi show up for midi fx.

Being a former Apple employee the explanation for the lack of the headphone Jack was to to help with the issue of water damage and to make the product lighter it was more of a move for people not in pro audio. That’s my they made the wired headphones for the phone and iPhone have the same connection that the charger has. Maybe they thought that pro audio would join in having the same connection that Apple uses for charging their devices. Probably for a money grab or something I’m not totally sure about that part.

What’s Good Bolo? I definitely get what you’re saying. Me myself I hate wires. I Bluetooth everything. I only use wires to charge my gear. As for a headphone jack. My Audio-Technica ATHM50XBT Wireless Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones, BlackAudio-Technica ATHM50XBT Wireless Bluetooth Over-Ear Headphones over Bluetooth sound just as good as plugging them in. I have the micro usb version. They’ve upgraded to the usb c version. I may sell these just to get the usb c version. Yes, everyone has their likes and dislikes. I don’t like wires. I even have a 20w Baseus MagSafe Wireless charger. I use those to charge my stuff. I also have My iPad Mini 6 & iPhone 12 Pro Max. I just use good software. I am strictly a minimalist. I sold my hardware years ago. I’m a Bluetooth Man, not a wire man. There are people that look at me as strange which is great, because I don’t want to be too common. As for my wall plugs. I have a Bluetti Solar Generator, A Bluetti 200 watt Solar Panel and 3 other Solar Panel. I just use my wall plug to charge my Bluetti Solar Generator which only takes 3 hours and last close to 1 days and a half when fully charged. My Thing is also to not spend a lot of money. Invest Money and put my money into High Interest Savings Accounts are my thing!!!!!!! That’s just my Subjective View on how I do things. I love when you and others tell your views as well. I am not the type to call anyone wrong. Doing that would say that I want someone else to be like me. That would make life Boring if everyone did the same exact thing!!!!!!!

Spot on regarding headphone jacks and subscriptions. Nokia had one of the best portable mp3 players on their mobiles in early 00's. No jack thought, needed a dedicated 'Nokia' headphone connector. Went the way of the Dodo, despite being king of the game.

I agree particularly on the headphone jack issue. The file system is dumb but it is an iPad after all and I can tolerate that a bit. The subscription is not a problem for me as I think paying for good software consistently is worth it. A dumb work-around for the headphone jack problem is that I bought the new EarPods from Apple with the USB-C connector, the sound quality is acceptable but I can't charge the device now so...the best solution is to just give us the headphone jack, Apple.

Your reasoning is sound. The MacBook 14inch Solves every problem you mention. No Subscription, NO file management issues, Headphones, plenty of I.O. The Apple M1 Max MBP is what I use and the iPad, is a luxury Logic Remote on the best of days.

The no headphone jack on iOS devices baffles me too. Makes no sense to require a dongle in order to use 3.5mm headphones. Just Dumb! However, the subscription fee seems fair to me for $50 per year to have the latest version and get all updates. It's $200 for Logic Pro for Mac. Although a one time fee of $150 for the iOS version to gain unlimited lifetime access to all future versions would be nice too.

Haha! I could see that 'headphone jack' part coming from a mile away, but it was still a sweet pay-off when you said it :) Fortunately I have an iPad 9 so I still have cabled-headphone access. It makes such a huge difference. My only hope is that someday soon we get zero-latency (or very close to it) Bluetooth audio gear, with great audio fidelity…at affordable prices. Agree on the file-management point, but not so much on the subscription. It’s a personal preference thing, of course. But there seem to be quite a few folk who have cancelled subscription early on. Had they paid a larger sum upfront (and it could've been quite a high one-off price) they’d have wasted quite a chunk of change. The sub model allows people to dive on and out, which could perhaps keep Apple on their toes when it comes to development and frequency of updates etc.

I was delighted when they created the live loops feature as I don’t use Ableton anymore but it is a disaster. I exported stems from MPC 2.0 and they don’t even loop properly when triggered - this is an ongoing issue for such a long time that it’s basically useless. It will play fine looped in arrangement view and as soon as I change to loops Ao. The left and trigger a stack of stems… playback of fked. Tried all the quantise settings on and off and still it’s a mess. Made me stop using it and how many updates have been released since it’s integration. Disgraceful Mpc 3.0 please have an arrangement view ..PLEASE!!!!!

I'd have an issue with the subscription if it were more expensive. If I compare it to what I've spent on my other DAWS, especially Ableton, it's peanuts to pachyderms. Unfortunately, there are more than enough other issues with Logic Pro on the iPad to make it a disappointment. I'd rather use GarageBand for most of the things I want to do with LogicPro.
