Steinbeg also offers a mobile DAW called Cubasis that is compatible with its desktop counterpart Cubase allowing for projects to be swapped in between iPad and PC.

Thanks for the video. Just a note, we can curve the transitions on Mac as well, I believe it is control or option plus shift - then you can curve it down or up to avoid linear effect of up or down - but obviously the pencil looks faster approach to draw the lines; but still those curve still needs to be done using the command between the 2 points if someone wanted to do so

im wondering about plug ins. aren't there a ton of mac or pc plugins that you just cant add on ios? au vst, etc? i'm kind of a novice, and want to get the ipad for music production, but i really like the sound of some vsts. through komplete specifically. i dont imagine i can use those. thanks
@GarrettCrespo Жыл бұрын
There are, unfortunately. And they don’t currently work or they’re very buggy. I’ve been treating my iPad as a portable recording station where I can record audio and do most of the edits if I need to. However, once I need a plugin that doesn’t work on the iPad, I save the project to iCloud and pick it back up over on the Mac.
@MobileMusicPro6 ай бұрын
There is a VST/AU equivalent standard for iOS called AUv3. Most of your favorite desktop AUs do indeed have AUv3 versions on the iPad such as all the fabfilter plugins.

Awesome review! I’m currently using my old iPad 8 with lightning and it runs Logic Pro x like a charm. I connect a Yamaha usb mixer and two midi controllers from Arturia and akai, via a powered usb hub. However, the arturia key lab essential is recognized but doesn’t send any midi, idk due to what. Only when plugged in directly into lightning or through a specific inconvenient dongle, it works. Do you think having usb c in a newer iPad will solve this issue? What I’m doing currently is I’m running keylab software on my Mac, control it with keylab controller to play some nice synth sounds and run the audio from MacBook to the input of the mixer 😅

you should be able to solve your problem, yes. having the right cable is enough. new ipads (especially the mini) are great also!

Hello! Great video comment! I meant to ask you… I have the 3gen iPad Air and I get a constant cpu overload prompt and its gets really annoying not to mention frustrating! Any comprehensive advise I can snatch from you?😅 Big thanks!✌️
@GarrettCrespo6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately, the cpu overload warning usually means that logic pro is taxing the system more than what the cpu can handle. You can try reducing the number of effects running on a track, but if it’s happening from normal tasks, you’re probably maxed out on what that iPad can do with logic. The A12 is a good chip, and while logic “can” run on it, this is a piece of software really only plays nice on M-series chips.

Would you share your thoughts on sounds, for example the Alchemy synth. Is there a noticeable difference between using it on iPad vs the Mac? I have seen vids on the sampler limitations on iPad but I am more concerned about sound quality. Thanks for any feedback.
@GarrettCrespo Жыл бұрын
I’ve recorded multiple covers both on drums and vocals through this version iPad version of Logic and there has been no difference. In fact, the audio recorded on my Mac and then sent to my iPad and visa versa retains all the same quality and information.
@markaprill65014 ай бұрын
iPad has sophisticated sound quality but you must have external dac to optimize on any digital source..including Mac.

If toontrack ports over a version of either ezdrummer or superior drummer *OR* if native instruments ports over a version of kontakt so that I can use ggd or another kontakt drum library I will fully ditch my Mac Studio.

that's why apple will not let that happen sadly

Sir just want to know if you can save the ipad logic's sound library on ssd and use it thru usb-c on logic. Will it work?? Thanks sir
@GarrettCrespo Жыл бұрын
I haven’t actually tried moving the sound library to an external SSD. I don’t actually know. I know projects can be run from external storage.

Hi Garret thank you for this video! Do you think 8 gigabytes of ram on the iPad Pro is enough to compose like a pro with logic?
@GarrettCrespo6 ай бұрын
For small and even medium sized projects, yes. Anything more, it chokes up. I primarily use it as my multitrack recorder and then send the project to my Mac for anything more than a few tracks and tweaks.

Can Garage Band do stem separation in iPad from an audio sample?
@GarrettCrespo4 ай бұрын
Not that I can see. Seems to be a Logic Pro exclusive
@machinemademanАй бұрын
Cubasis is much easier to use if you just need to professionally record stuff. I’m giving logic a shot but having no prior experience with it coming from Ableton it’s really not intuitive and require a lot of pregaming compared to Cubasis which just makes sense and works out of the box everything is visible and easy to figure out. And it’s cheap. It hasn’t lacked a feature yet..it’s not dense with free content but it’s stable and easy to use. I’ve tested it with everything from recording mode to having over fifty automated channels and nothing has slowed it down yet

Does iPad pro support high impedance studio headphones?? How do you feel while mixing ??
@GarrettCrespo8 ай бұрын
Kind of. There's no built in headphone jack. So I run my recording interface through the USB C/Thunderbolt port and that provides enough power for my high impedance headphones through the interface.

USBC headphones or standard headphones through an audio interface or usb c adapter

Feels like garage band to me…..I will watch some tutorials….it could just be me that sucks…the effects are nice and when I run my piano apps through it it makes them sound better…it would be nice if it had standard file loading…so could easily import external media..I do not like the proprietary drag into a sampler it really is annoying….i will read the instructions…
@GarrettCrespo4 ай бұрын
The file loading is definitely my biggest complaint with this. I've taken to just making the projects within Logic on my Mac and then syncing it over the cloud. After that, it's quite the beast for drum track recording for me.

Nope it’s a cluttered mess period. I’m mad that I’m one of the folks who screamed for it and now I’m so disappointed with the interface I simply don’t use logic unless I’m on the desktop which is still a pain in my brain but at least I can get a track going which is more than I can say for logic iOS . I also hate using a stylus . MIDI editing sucks as well .

@@WarriorEsoteric your right ! The UI is the cleanest on all of iOS for sure with the most easy to use features. If you don't like it fine but it's sure serving alot of people right now perfectly.

@@MobileMusicPro I use gadget as my main Daw on iOS and Lurssen for mastering . It is the most music focused best daw on iOS I know of . It’s not perfect but it allows a lot more musical depth and expressiveness than logic on iOS easily and the gadgets sound amazing . Logic is a fidgety nightmare and it’s subscription based too the browser is terrible and the play surfaces are clunky compared to the ones that already exist on the au instruments themselves. As soon as you open something the timeline becomes impossible to use from being covered up , implemented midi implementation and editing without the stylus that has already changed is terrible too. Garage band is a much better interface and tapping on a clip takes you straight to the most important choices to build a track and work fast which is crucial to song writing in my opinion. Same thing with Final Cut . I cancelled them both after a year of being pissed off for being stupid enough to use it at all. That’s on me but I’m much happier now and creating music instead of relearning the wheel every time so Apple can run out the clock on our devices.✌️👽
