Great intro to getting to use virtual drum kits. There are others - but this overview of the inbuilt Logic ones makes a lot of sense. I bought a few drum loops and drum machine plugins cheaply to see what they would do, but there isn't really any need to spend a lot on new plugins [I didn't!] if this is built in. I've been using Logic for years, but didn't get to try the drum kits and loops until recently. The extra insight into sampling with the newer drum kit interfaces is also valuable, though earlier versions of Logic and built in features wouldn't have had all the bells and whistles which are now available in the later versions of Logic, such as 10.7 and 10.8. I can see that perhaps these tools can be used outside of the world of drum kits - to provide interfaces for other samples. Bird song - perhaps! Very helpful.

Thanks so much and indeed, a great idea. DMD can be used to play back any one shot samples. I know a guy who uses it to play back industrial sounds and then adjusts effects live to get crazy sounds. The creativity is endless!

These are really good tutorials for the rest of us. I find the way you explain makes thing vaery. I admit that i do run something back at reduced speed to really get it on the first go. …I mean, I do like my Alesis HR-16, but I think it’s long past time for some new s***. This vid made sense of the DMD/ Pattern sequencer and the relation to the sampler in the big apple. thanks so much
