Thanks. That was the best explanation on sidechain in Logic I've seen. Clear and concise.

Awesome lesson , very well explained! Quick question where do you download extra kicks and snares etc. for Logic Pro x? Thank you :)
@MiirAudio8 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have a lot of them from over the years having things like Battery, Maschine and other things installed that come with a library of sounds. But to answer your question i believe a google search for "drum sample library" would probably get you close. In terms of this tutorial though, you don't actually have to have a kick drum sample on your hard drive. the track i used could just have easily been an instance of Ultrabeat triggered via midi regions. In other words, the compressor isn't going to care whether the signal source came from a plugin or regular audio. hope that helps, Good luck...

Great tutorial. Can you also show us how to use maschine samples in Logic. Thanks
@MigsR27668 жыл бұрын
I think the reason why it got so much louder when you activated the compressor for the side-chain was because the AUTO MAKE-UP gain was on. If you turned it off you may not have to crank down the output on the compressor.

if I want the whole track to duck to the kick drum in a house music song, can I side chain the master channel to the kick or do I have to side chain each channel individually? Thank you

Hi. When I switched the output to no output, logic didnt register the sound of the kick drum and for that reason i cant hear the sidechain effect ( i think ). For what i understand from other videos and this one, logic still needs to be registering the sound of the drum even though you cant hear it.

pretty sure you had auto release on and and -12db gain engaged.

谢谢!
@deadwhenifoundher6 жыл бұрын
You can just turn 'Auto Gain' OFF on the compressor and you won't get all that extra gain from the compressor. You left it on throughout this despite saying 'we don't want any makeup gain.' (it's set to the -12 button in your video).

I watched a million tutorials on how to sidechain, but for some reason i can't select the stereo out tab. I click on it and nothing happens. do you know why that is? I've tried looking online why, but I can't find anything.

+Joel Maida Make sure that you have all Advanced Tools enabled in Logic Pro X > Preferences > Advanced. That should solve the problem for you.

I had the same issue right now. I opened up mixer and noticed that when I click on the channel strip, the stereo out is selected as a separate one on the side. I deleted that separate one. Then it showed up in original strip which I muted. However, you don't have to do all this. You record a kick in ultrabeat or any drum sampler for one bar, loop it to your requirement and then mute output. That's actually lot easier than this audio file example IMO.

it may depend on the version of logic pro you have. he is demonstrating from the most recent larger update where the compressor looks like this, the previous version was smaller which is why perhaps he commented that the compressor window he used was so huge.
