Such an incredible sketch pad. My favourite is to make a sound I like, then click “Create Alchemy track” under the three dots at the top right. Seeing how the sounds one makes in Sample Alchemy are implemented in actual Alchemy can really help demystify how the latter beast works-sort of like replacing Drum Synth with Ultrabeat in the instrument slot…

Hi, how did you get source B to jump around like that around ~13:30 in the vid. I assume some kind of jitter setting but I don't see any.
@jonobuchananmusic3 ай бұрын
Great question. Honestly, I think that was a glitchy bug! Exactly how and why that happened remains a mystery. But you can replicate that behaviour with Automation.

Hi, I just subscribed, thanks for the fantastic videos. Could you possibly cover how to address phasing issues in sound design, especially when using unison with the stock synths? I mainly use headphones, and while things sound decent there, they often get lost in mono or on phone speakers. I've tried using mid/side EQ with limited success, particularly when filter automations come into play-things get messy to control. I understand there's no simple fix, but any tips you could share would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Many thanks and welcome! There are new episodes here every Wednesday and a new Short on Saturdays. Phase issues are something I'm certainly happy to add to the list of topics to cover in future episodes. Many thanks for the suggestion.

@@jonobuchananmusic That's great, looking forward to it. I'm really happy and inspired to have found your channel. The practical way you explain things really stands out and is something I deeply appreciate. After skimming through some of your videos I definitely plan to dig deeper. The visual and musical aesthetics also enhance the overall presentation. Cheers from Istanbul.

I have so many Granular VSTs, but none is quite like this one. Sad its only available for Logic :/
@jonobuchananmusic3 ай бұрын
Yes. Though it is also available for Logic on the iPad too, so that would be a cheaper way to get it and potentially integrate it into another DAW, if you're an iPad owner.

I'm confused. Where can I find the beautiful sine harp?
@jonobuchananmusic8 ай бұрын
Hi. If you're not seeing that patch at the same location I'm using it in the video, I'm guessing you haven't downloaded the Logic content which includes that patch yet. You can go into the Library and head to the folder for the relevant instrument type and press the download button next to the sound category name. Or you can also click on Logic Pro > Sound Library > Sound Library Manager to download the content you're looking for.

Very similar to Sculpture in many ways
@jonobuchananmusic10 ай бұрын
Hi Todd. I agree with you in one way - this particular sound and some at which Sample Alchemy excels are certainly quite Sculpture-y. But I also think that there's a big difference between physical modelling and this kind of Granular re-sampling and that both engines offer truly unique feature sets. Definitely worth exploring both!

My Alchemy files or sounds are not in my plugin anymore.Just this plugin.How can I find it and fix it? Thanks mate.
@jonobuchananmusic8 ай бұрын
Hi Tom. Sorry to hear that. Have you moved the Sound Library or inadvertently deleted any files? If you've moved it, you can go to Logic Pro > Sound Library > Relocate and point your browser at wherever it's been moved to. If not, it sounds like you might benefit from Reinstalling the Sound Library, which you can do from the same menu. Hope you manage to get it fixed.
@TomRivieremusic8 ай бұрын
@@jonobuchananmusic Thanks for your response so quick. Yes, I relocated the library to an external hard drive. I trying to individually download sounds that are missing like my Horns and strings. It was working last week. Everything else seems to be working fine. Except when I want to download all the sounds. It just keeps saying failed. I have a 4TB external hard drive. So that can't be the problem. Anyway, thanks hopefully I can get out of this mess soon. Cheers mate.

It’s cool that Logic now has that kind of effect built in but tbh it sounds just like a ton of Max4Live devices or third party VSTs out there - it’s cool to cut out small bits and pieces of the affected loop but it never works for sustained material fully wet. Unless you wash it out in reverb and end up with a random pad. I’d be much more excited if Logic got an FM synth instead of granular / spectral.
@jonobuchananmusic10 ай бұрын
That’s fair but I have definitely found some sustained textures which have worked nicely. I think the thing about Sample Alchemy is that it works best if you’re at the moment in the production stage where you’re looking for the unpredictable, rather than as a tool to realise a sound you’d imagined in advance. And even if that means making a texture which then needs sampling and looping, it will almost certainly be a sound no one else will ever make! That appeals to me.
@grrdjf10 ай бұрын
Logic has at least 4 FM synths, maybe 6, depending how you count (EFM1, Retro, Alchemy, Ultrabeat, ES1 and ES2). Alchemy can, in theory, do 96 operators if you push it, tho I’ve never tried. Check’em out! Hth.
