the problem is that she will not be happy in japan if she only moved there because of the "pop culture". i spent 6 weeks in japan (5 of them working on the countryside, and 1 week vacation in tokyo). i also studied japan studies at uni, and even with all the knowledge of the culture and knowing what to expect to a certain degree, i found myself often feeling rejected. they look at you strangely, they don't trust you with important tasks, they don't expect you can speak their language even if you do so fluently (because sure as hell you will not come far with speaking english there, especially not on the countryside). and imo they just feel some type of way about foreigners, it's nothing personal and i especially don't want to generalize.! now, all of this sounds so negative, but i don't mean to. i loved loved loved my time in japan. it's just reeeally different and sometimes you feel alone, estranged and homesick. just be careful of what you imagine that country to be. i don't want to make assumptions, but it looks like she moved there for the aEstHeTiC and that's just not gonna work out.
