Everything has changed since I started spinning in the mid-80s. Couples don't really square off and dance like Soul Train used to be, they mainly huddle and chant lyrics. You're right, so many people are used to hearing DJs slam hits together and talk over the off-beat transitions, that real mixing DJs are not appreciated as much. Even the passion of going to record stores and finding the hits is lost. Some DJs don't even download their playlist anymore, (which is the easiest thing to do). They just play music from streaming services as needed. I could keep going, but Yes, things are not the same.

I really appreciate what has gone into the Serato / virtual vinyl thing but it's become chaotic mess IMO with too much focus on technology .. the DJ tech.. - it was dialed in at real vinyl records with 1200s a good cartridge, sound system and as you mentioned the most important aspect outside of the music the DJ is catering to.. THE DANCERS. anything robotic I dislike except for Roger Troutman's vocals.

I’m with you brother! If you don’t beat mix you’re not a DJ. You’re a music selector. Aka a glorified jukebox. That is the one skill you must have to call yourself a DJ in my book!

I agree 100% but what I realized after so many years of digital files that not having the physical music and play it, makes you numb nowadays because everyone takes music for granted, a new track is being made every second and you don’t even have time to let a song marinate and breath. Songs would take you on a journey and you would let it play longer, unless you where beat juggling. But we can go on and on! I’m 100% a mixologist and putting the right song at the right time. 👍🏽

@2:00 - 100% like 'sort into crates'... . as a DJ you know those crates inside and out.. both digital and physical vinyl ESPECIALLY if you converted your own digital versions from YOUR vinyl to your serato cue'd up jams... there's an immediate intimate relationship as you are making your set reality. That comment also suggest they don't even want to listen to the tracks they are saying that they want it to sort just by inputting the track (AI?) they don't know about labelling / basic categorizing?

Hey styles another great conversation but basically some DJs just want it too easy some of them didn't put the work in that we did in the 80s & 90s. Nowadays you have all the tools you need and then much more than that. Some newer DJs may not understand what we did back in the day was work and dedication. You took pride in buying your music and organizing your physical crates yourself because you had to. So now you want a program to organize your crates for you that's just LAZY..... and beat matching is basic 101 you have to learn that. But anyway I can go on and on. I like this platform that you continue to put out I like this format. Different than most out there. 💯 Real Talk...✌🏾

Anyone can download a bunch of tunes.Get some software and a controller and go play music and call themselves a dj.These people will not beat match right.Will not program their set.Will not bother trying to read the room and beyond having a vague idea of what they are playing, will have little understanding of the music they are using.They will not know phrasing .Eq,. Looping , effects..etc.In that way from those looking on.Yeah its a joke.Put the right person in the right place with the right tunes and skills .Then its stops being a joke.

Beat Mixing or Blending is the Foundation of a DJ only Playing the Right Song is like a Spotify Playlist. There is a lot of Playlist DJs with Animation out there 😂😂😂😂😂😂

DJing has become a joke. People with laptop and cracked versions of Virtual DJ is not making money DJing ... they can't even beatmix! They charge less than proper DJs and get more gigs!
