This is a very useful channel, glad I've found it. I'm quite proficient with CorelDRAW, but I've been meaning to switch to Inkscape for years. While Inkscape is deficient when it comes to certain features, it has two huge advantages over Corel: it's free, and it works on Linux. CorelDRAW is one of the few programs that keeps me dependent on Windows, so I'm willing to lose some features just to move to Linux full time.

The solution I found was before the "stroke to path" part, you go to fill and no paint, then you can do the "stroke to path" and "break apart" part, and below the path button you can find some buttons that can bring the object to front and back.

Jim Jimmy's got solution. 1. After setting the red stroke to 25 px, you need to remove the fill by either clicking on the [ X ] at the bottom of Inkscape or going to Fill > [x] in the "Fill and Stroke" panel. 2. Now you can do Path > Stroke to Path 3. Path > Break Apart

Hi Nick, Pretty new to this and am following using Fedora, latest inkscape. When I get to 3:15 on your video about breakaprt so you have the middle separate from the stroke mine will not break apart and if I continue to follow I end up having 3 stroke lines and instead of having the single white solid line between the fill area and the stroke. I know I am probably missing something silly here however could you help me out with this or anyone who knows what this is as i have been trying to find out why i can't follow as you do. Great video and hope I can get over this hurdle. Thanks.

At around 3:10, when I clicked Intersection, everything disappeared. Edit: I uninstalled and installed it twice just to make that thing work. Now I'm stuck again at 4:00 mark which is the Stroke to Path and Break apart. When I clicked those, nothing happens. It just says at the bottom: "No Stroked Paths in the Selection". I also noticed that when I did that, the stroke width that I set to around 22 goes back to around 3.7 at the Stroke Style but the actual stroke is still 22 thick and you can't adjust it anymore. . It's so annoying when you thought it's fairly easy to do.

So, I figured it out. It turns out in the newest Mac version a few other steps have to be followed to do the same thing. After "Stroke to Path" has been done the object needs to be ungrouped. That's done under either the "Object" menu or by right clicking on the object and selecting ungroup. Then "break up" under the path menu will work.
