I messed up the settings during the tiling step and somehow ended up creating a golfball. Not the intention but still pretty cool. *UPDATE:* So for anyone else who runs into the same issue, the problem for me was in the "Apply the value to the clones" section. Specifically, it was the "color" option that gave me the golfball effect. For whatever reason, I had to select "size" and "opacity" to get the desired effect, rather than "size" and "color" as instructed in the video. Noting for reference in case anyone is smarter than me and knows why the discrepency: I'm on an M1 mac working with Inkscape 1.2.1. I believe I have all default settings enabled -- I just started using the program yesterday, I don't think I've touched any configuration that would affect this.

After a week of poking around and trying everything, I finally thought about resetting the app (Preferences/System/Reset Preferences) - restarted the app, tried it - and it worked exactly as described in the tutorial. Thanks for sharing - I’d been looking for a good way to do halftone in Inkscape. Did you know the text border effect can be done without the extra copy? The paint order under the stroke options has one where the fill covers the stroke so you don’t end up with stroke intruding over the fill.

I've learned a ton from watching your vids, thanks Nick. One question, why did you duplicate the first set of letters instead of just giving them a stroke width?
@acusticajax36184 жыл бұрын
I think that he did that to make like a shadow effect, just giving them a stroke would produce a stroke that is symetrical, while duplicating makes the shadow assymetrical and more like a real shadow i think

What I did not understand was how did Inkscape know on what reference it was going to clone the circle? That is how did it know that it had to clone it on the blurred circle? Maybe I will find it out by myself with time...
@LogosByNick5 жыл бұрын
It's based on the width and height specified in the settings of the tiled clones menu. It uses the X and Y axis of the document. I set it to 400x400 pixels, then it traced everything within a 400x400 area starting from top left to bottom right.

But what about the texture paper you show on thumbnail for this video? How did you do that?
@fidaulmustafa29044 жыл бұрын
Hello, Nick, I loved this tutorial just like every single one of others. I have just a technical question here to better understand this tutorial and this cloning technique. I am having a little difficulty understanding the reason behind why you created that white square behind that blurred circle and can you please explain in your words how did this small circle changed into this pattern? Thanks as always. @Logos By Nick
@cfalguiere4 жыл бұрын
I also wondered. My assumption is that it's used to place the first tile at the right location, at the top left angle, while the rectangle is centered along with the cercle. It might grant that the tiles are well centered and symmetric.
@RonWaller5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Nick. Really enjoy your videos and appreciate the work you put into creating them. I know you use both Inkscape and Illustrator and I know you can create things in both programs and get the same results. I am curious Inkscape vs illustrator it seems that there are more steps in Inkscape to create the same effect in illustrator, but I could be wrong. I was just wondering your thoughts since you use them both. Thanks
@LogosByNick5 жыл бұрын
I've found Illustrator to be quicker when it comes to things like transforming text and 3D, but overall the two applications are very similar and require just as much time to create things, especially when it comes to basic pure shapes like you would use for logo design.
