There’s also merit to this comment (that doesn’t necessarily preclude thirst). Zane in Partner Track is the dictionary definition of typecast. His lacking dialogue in PT makes me believe the writers inserted him as a slapstick sideshow with zero character development; he magically gets a big client at the end to help move along the narrative tension among the main characters despite losing most his brain mass to what one can only assume was a few too many benders at the frat house. The writing of his (can we even really call it?) arch was extremely off-putting. Also I love Joel Kim Booster but the writing and portrayal of Dex felt designed to make him a tissue-thin villain with no humanity who could be played by any rando str8-passing jock. Glamorous gives him a role with comparatively more depth. *Chad* (in case the typecast was still too subtle) learning from Marco’s mother how to navigate severe narcissist mommy issues was one of the few redeeming archs I’ve seen Zane portray. Otherwise, the role gives him a vague affiliation to queer culture that yet again comes off as pro-assimilation at the expense of community-building and authenticity in the face of repeated social rejection. This interview and his interview with the Fire Island cast allows us to see Zane’s bonafide Theater Queen energy in lieu of his typecast masc4masc gym bro persona.
