He has spent decades with torturing innocent people for who they are, drove some of them to suicide, doesn't apologize to them and then suddenly comes out as gay and continues a happy life while other lgbt people don't have this opportunity anymore because they are dead

I’m sorry but that former conversion therapy guy is insufferable. His entire worldview is revolved around “me.” He never once apologizes for all the people he’s hurt or driven to suicide. The victim of conversion therapy is much nicer to him than many other people would be.

Good for Garrard, I only wish he had held him accountable a little more. I'm so often floor by the response from former "therapists" that want to paint themselves as the victims. That's bullshit and they know it. Hopefully more and more people will start to realize the daunting task us survivors have piecing our lives back together. Don't let them get a free pass by saying "I was a victim, too."

Great interview on this timely, important subject. Within the limited time of the interview, I think the former therapist did express sorrow for what he has done. It shouldn't matter to viewers that he subjectively sees himself as a victim also, and that he has wasted 20+ years of his life. I believe that he suffers also, and, as Gerrard says that compassion is key, should it not extend to this man? Very courageous interview, Gerrard!

Garrard Conley is very forgiving and has far more grace than all the hate-filled homophobic "Christians" who still endorse this sort of thing. As for McKrae, the so called therapist, he needs to be a bit more contrite and to fully take on board that many people have killed themselves directly because of him.

I'm not excusing what he has done cause it was wrong, but he is a victim to. Hurt people hurt people. He must apologize, but we must grow to forgive. Not because it will make him feel better, but because resentment keeps us sick. I am speaking as a gay man that was brought up in an antigay church. left at 27 and have been broken and struggling since. I speak against resentment cause honestly it drove me to IV drug use. I am clean now, but its a battle and somedays I just want to not be alive. I hope for not only my healing but for everyone who was indoctrinated. I use to be funny, smart, and kind as a kid and I have just seen this whole experience completely transform me into something unrecognizable. I keep telling myself that I am over it, or should be over it, but no matter how many times I tell myself this doesn't change the truth. Sorry for my rant yall. I really do hope for healing for everyone, cause no matter what that McKrae guy says, I know he is not okay. Cause when you hurt person, really hurt another person, it never leaves you

Imagine in one breath you’re told GOD LOVES YOU, but he doesn’t Like You, so you must change! Point: it’s a human not qualified to judge you, a DIVINE CREATION SO LOVED BY GOD! So-which is it people??? Are you DIVINE or not? Who’s REALLY qualified to say? Sad not a single religion has created LOVING BEINGS. Myself included! I’ve found LOVE WITHIN. Do I display it consistently? @@dannyt3522 my mother is Buddhist and all my life I’ve considered myself agnostic and a free thinker but I take a lot of Buddhist teachings to heart, maybe I’ll be one someday. It’s almost scientific, life is suffering and you have to embrace it (for example drug withdrawal must be embraced to make it out to the other side)

It's sad that Garrard still has not forgiven his conversion therapy abusers and puts that on other people who had nothing to do with his abuse. The fact that he has trouble hearing that McKrae is better grounded in his morals and beliefs is troubling. It's as if McKrae should grovel and never talk about his happiness in life from a destructive past.

I don't think it's so much that Gerrard has not forgiven the "therapists" from his past. It was a great opportunity for dialog and forgiveness. But I agree with you that, according to the comments here, the ex-therapist would have to self-flagellate and bleed on the floor to gain understanding and forgiveness. He will always be a pariah, and that's a shame.

Garrard is not unhappy that McKrae is happy, he's unhappy that McKrae wasn't self aware enough to know that you don't tell ex-gay survivors that you're loving your gay life now as a former ex-gay ambassador.
