Just a quick video to talk about the Shoepac "Larrigan" Moccasins I got from Logsdon & Company I got last week and I make a couple of minor mea culpas on the way

Nice boots. The boot/gaiter combo look like they would be good in wood tick country as well. In Northern Minnesota, mosquitos were enemy #1, Wood ticks #2, and assorted biting flies #3. The fall was the best season and, the winter for travel in the woods. Except during a blizzard; then you had to tie yourself to something -ha. Thanks Sarge.

The great thing about the leggings down here in TX is they'll keep the chiggers out of the pants legs. Them there will flat turn a good hike into a sucky one in about 5 minutes. I do remember the skeeters in NH, which I imagine are about the same as MI. Ironically, I'm down here in a semi-tropical environment and the skeeters bother me less than they did in NH. Thanks for watching!

Hey, Sarge! Those Mocs are beautiful! I would suggest gently stretching them with a pair of wooden shoe stretchers. In a couple of weeks of oil treatments and nightly GENTLY increasing the stretch, you should be able to get to where your boot socks fit. I believe you will have to keep them on the stretchers most or all of the time to keep them from slowly returning to original size.

Way ahead of you with the shoe stretcher thing. I'm not going to push things for the boot socks. Down here I only need those for about three days a year and I can just stay home or wear different boots on those days. But I am serious about wearing these things most days from now on, except when I might be walking distances on concrete. But now that I'm working out of the house exclusively, they will be my daily footwear. I love these dang things. Thanks for watching!

Sarge, Thanks for the video and all the information on the boots and leggings! Have fun and Be safe at the Ohio Squirrel Camp! BTW Sarge You're the Al Bundy of the Living History World. I can see myself buying a pair of these boots! lol 😃

I think that if you do by a pair, you'll be happy with them. Usually at this point in the break in process I find something I don't like about a new pair of boots; these haven't given me any reasons yet. Thanks for watching!

They do look comfy. I used sno- seal for years but found Montana pitch blend , and man, it’s the bomb. I have to stand in water much of the time in deep Southeast Louisiana. I treated my Crazy Horse Leather Jim Green African Ranger boots and No issues. I’m sure there are several good ones. Options are good

I think I'll stick with the mink oil with an application of wax before heading out. Old habits die hard---- Thanks for watching!

Those do look mighty sweet! Be careful of walking on wet floors and wet (smooth) concrete - moccasins can be very slippery. I reckon walking "Indian style" toe-first would be better than my heal-first style. I wear slip-on moccasins every day around the house and on my concrete driveway to 'n from the mailbox and they've held up remarkably well. They are definitely the most comfortable "shoes" I have but they're not the best for the rocky hillsides we have here in the Ozarks.

I've had surprisingly little problems with slip sliding away, and all my floors are fake wood with plenty of reasons to slip. Luckily, I don't have the same rocky conditions down here--most everything is flat and covered with pine needles. I may have to be a tad bit more careful going down into and coming up out of the creek beds, though. Thanks for watching!

@@sargevining Really good to know yours aren't slipping (on floors anyway - slippery / rolling rocks in creek beds might be a different story, but at least moccasins will allow you to feel them and compensate better! I sure like the looks of those boots!

Looking good. Yeah those leather soles don't hold up to rough wear. Of course that is why moccasins did not last. Crepe soles don't last either. I bought a pair of mukluks with crepe soles and since I take my walk on a snowmobile/atv trail every day which is basically a gravel rode it tore the crepe to shreds. It does that to a lot of shoe soles if they are not up to the challange. You know the old timers would put the heavy socks on with the boots and stood in water till their socks were soaked and then walked until they were dry to make them fit and then oil them.

Yah, I rather prefer the "oil them up every night" thing than I do the "lets see of these things will shrink so much I can't get the off" approach. These should hold up very well for the terrain I usually hike in, basically sandy soil covered with pine needles. I'm 72 in February, these will likely last until after God calls me home.

I found leather-soled moccasins to be too slippery to wear around bare floors. Even with a double-layer of leather, my feet take some toughening to wear such things out of doors.
@sargeviningКүн бұрын
I'm not having a problem on the bare floors here, and I'm not being especially careful (like you I thought they'd be slippery). I'm going to be wearing these more often than any other shoe I own, so I think that along with breaking in the shoes, I'm breaking in my feet, too.
