The only true contralto coloratura since Marietta Alboni. I've been so lucky to see her live more than 15 times and besides I interviewed her in the Gran Teatre del Liceu, here in Barcelona, and a friend of mine made us a picture together 20 years ago which remains over a little table that you can see when entering my home. I've seen her in Pessaro, Avignon and in several places in and outside Barcelona. At 85 years old I can say that hers is the voice that I liked most of all the singers I've heard live along my life since1954 till now. I have all of her recordings and DVDs and many pirate recordings. I love Rossini and she has been his arguably most faithfull to his scores singer.

What a loss. Her husband, pianist Jerzy Marchwinski, died 3 months ago. She once said: "I have so many male roles in my repertoire that sometimes I look in the mirror with fear whether I am growing a mustache."

Very sad news I received today. I first heard Ewa in Ann Arbor when she substituted in a song recital for someone (I don't remember who it was) who could not make the engagement because of illness. It was one of her very first introductions to the United States. I had the pleasure of working with her, when I invited her to participate in the International Winter Arts Square Festival of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra in a concertized production of Orpheus & Eurydice where she sang the role of Orpheus splendidly and memorably. A young soprano from the Mariinsky Young Artists program sang Eurydice. Ewa had a rare and gorgeous contralto voice. I had the pleasure of hearing her many times. Just so shocked and sad to hear this news. She will be missed, may she Rest in Peace.

I am thunderstruck. In 2007 I was lucky to hear her life in Tancredi, twice. Earlier the same year her Italiana in Agieri was the first sounds of my first date with my partner since then. It was a love at first sound. She was the only star I ever sent flowers... Find peace, divine Ewa!

This is a part of "Ciro in Babilonia" by Rossini. This production was staged in 2012 at the ROF for the first time at the ROF Rossini Opera Festival. I visited this production twice. The cast was really amazing and I liked it very much. A complete video recording of this production is available on KZbin where you can watch it. Enjoy!
