But even in early FG, Peter did terrible things frequently. He lied about Chris dying just to revive a TV show, he burned Meg's news article simply because he found it uninteresting, he "annexed" Joe's swimming pool, he ran sacked his neighbours etc

It's jarring how much more caring Peter is in these episodes. Yes, he still has a horrifying lack of consideration for others, but for example in the joke about the back alley abortionist he clarifies "Now don't get me wrong, I'm glad you changed your mind." And in the last scene he sincerely apologizes to Lois for tricking her into that job, and tells her she deserves a more exciting life. I can't imagine either of those scenes playing out that way these days.

Man, for people who are in denial and say family guy did not change, I can start to understand why'd they feel like that. Like watching the old clips of family guy when Stewie was evil and not gay and too adult like, Brian was sarcastic and likable and now went to a high class simp and douchebag, Peter was dumb but actually funny and not narcisstic and obnoxious. Old family guy set was actually a likable family and had a charm... now that I had a laugh at so many old family guy clips, I can never ever watch a new family guy because it just doesn't give the same laugh and has the sitcom charm.. watching these get weird sometimes man, lmfao
