That turned out beautifully! I really appreciate how you leave the painting up at the end for us to appreciate. It's been more than a year since I've played with my watercolors. Mostly because I became so frustrated with trying to achieve 'random accidents'. I'm getting inspired again!!! I've only recently discovered you and I think your style matches pretty well with what I've always wanted to do. Thanks for being here :D

I love this tutorial! Thank you so much. You mentioned your paper, Saunders, not being easy to lift. Do you have an experience with a paper that you think is easy to lift off of? I do have trouble lifting when I actually want to lol. And find lifting difficult on my arches paper.

So beautiful Lois. Good to hear how you have found Payne’s Grey in a few brands. They can be quite different. Now I’m going to have a go of one in my head using Payne’s. Thanks heaps. O, I always have trouble timing my salt. I think it is living in the tropics.

Dear Lois, I just love to watch you paint, in fact , I find it therapeutic . What size paper do you use? I tend to use small cut up sheets because I am no artist at all & I am afraid of wasting paper, good paper is expensive.
@karolfrench58163 жыл бұрын
You mentioned having painter lots of skies and putting them aside till a suitable sea or landscape inspires you. On doing this would you wet the whole paper again painted SKy inclined or would you wet the unpainted area only If so how do you avoid cockles. Thanks

Lois I bought some calligraphy brushes. Some cost a lot some less. Some three dollars some thirteen dollars. I got a super sweet item from goodwill a Japanese ink painting set. It had five ink sticks. Red black blue white blue . It had a a nicer slate to grind the ink. I also got a book too and some sets of brushes. They say they make black and red ones more for us but the like the blue and brown way more. The ink sticks are rock solid hard. The blue is like cobalt blue. I used in tandem charcoal in liquid form . It's more grey than black. I found a brush I really like called a number six quill. I also got a open package Raphael brush that is so precise. I am now ten weeks watercolor painting. I do enjoy india ink line and wash. The blue japanese ink is very pretty but I have no clue as to the light fastness. Its like granulatong some. Ok so far I tried winsir newton a few colors. Koi a twelve set. Derwent intense sets all three kinds. Daniel smith twelve color set and qor . Then primary holbein red blue yellow. I'm spinning trying to fast track my knowledge. To date my fav brushes are the silver brush. The raphael six quill. The princeton cat tounge. I goto the good will pay by the pound and it is a big garage sale like . Today I hot a big brush set of twelve brushes. Some new some cheap some brand name. I want a da Vinci's brush next. I also want to try the senilier paint set. I got one hake brush but want the ron set but six weeks waiting seemed long since I am only ten weeks along. I am thinking about using a butcher tray palette. Right now I'm using a nine well I got thirty years ago. I like a plate too. I bought a eleven well richeson one. My main paints are the daniel smith . I got the shimmer set and the permatek colors and ones people like. One favorite color is called mummy bauxite. My son picked out Italian burnt sienna . I think my favorite color is Payne's grey. I need a good liner tree twig think. I'm thinking size three rigger. I looked at the Matty brushes you have. His stuff is so far away though. I use dick blick and Amazon right now. I want two new colors today. Tell me a few to consider.

Learning so much about how to paint beautiful landscapes from you. Thank you, so much! ❤️ I have a question about Paynes grey, or other darker colors looking a bit chalky and leaving a white-ish residue once dry? It is very frustrating when you're trying to get those darker values in your painting, and they end up with this cloudy white film. I use Professional Winsor & Newton paint. Any suggestions? 🤷♀️

Thank you for all your paintings. I want to know more about those alixpress brushes. I am making my own brushes but I dont know what to use. I just bought a bristle brush at the store and using sorts of parts. Also please maybe tell us how to tell the timing between wet and soaked and less. I know its depends on the paper. I only see people use 140 pound. I see three hundred ar a higher cost. How do you tell what weight to use. Do you use the blocks or cut it yourself. I am trying all kinds of paper. Heads swimming.

Oh oh, please please not these birds again! I love your paintings but these birds do not do them any good. They always ruin the abstract impression. Only my opinion….
@LoisDavidsonArt3 жыл бұрын
You are probably right, I don’t always paint birds but I wanted them here this time as I could hear their wild cries across the marshlands in my mind as I painted. Please bear in mind you don’t have to include them if you try something similar!
