/ loisdavidsonart Today I'd like to show you how I paint another loose watercolour seascape depicting storm clouds over the English channel. It is quite a quick and simple painting, but like most things it takes practice :-)
It's best done on 100% cotton paper, see materials list below. Thanks so much for watching, please like and subscribe for more fast & loose watercolour tutorials and demos! Thanks so much to my Patrons on Patreon for your support and for supporting this channel!
Materials:
Millford 100% cotton paper, 140lb, 15" x 11"/38cm x 28 cm
Cotman tube paints: paynes grey, yellow ochre, indigo and vandyke brown, cobalt blue, cerulean blue
Large Chinese 3" hake brush, small hake, 3/4" Cotman flat brush, no. 1 rigger brush and plactic store card

Amazingly beautiful Lois. You have so mastered those nice moody skies. You are truely a master painter. You inspire me to put more time and care into my skies. I don’t have brown madder. Could I use indigo, Payne’s grey and burnt umber ? I wish I could see seascapes where I live, but will be satisfied with hills and mountains.

Beautiful! I've been binge watching your videos and now going to sign up for patreon. 😃 Somewhere you mention that the Cotman sienna is paler and more yellow than other watercolor brand siennas. Of the professional brands such as Daniel Smith, M Graham and Qor, which color might be the closest to what you use? Again, thank you so much for all you share!!

Lois, thank you for the amazing effort you put out on these videos. Got in the habit of watching your vids late at night on KZbin. Started watercolor painting at 69 recently, and though I'm in love with doing it, it's quite frustrating most of the time. But that's for another time. I do have a rookie question. I was trying to "duplicate" your Stormy Seascape here and having the usual issues with water. Go figure. However, my question concerns my brush. I just bought a brush called a Wash/Glaze brush. It's flat, 3/4". I used it for the first time today on your painting that I was trying to duplicate, but as I use it, the bristles, separate and it looks like a fork. Disconcerting when attempting to paint a straight line. Is that normal for this type brush? No other brush that I have does that. I apologize for the mundane question. Thank you.

If you use a strong mix of colour and don't brush over the colours, they should stay yellow and blue, they will only blend if watery or if you brush over and then they will mix to greem
