Sort of Kletzmer music, love it....there is really a big affinity between finnish, karelian and estonian soul and hungarian soul...I lived for 14 years in Hungary, since 2016 in Estonia and Greece too...yep, I can feel it everyday.

What a great treat finding this song was for me. It is a very powerful, deep and extremely poignant song; sung by the incomparable Anita Lehtola-Tollin. Her expressive voice and perfect diction make me long to have heard her singing live. The poetry and the violin music are sublime... they are a match made in heaven. Loituma: Finland's delightful and fantastic export to the rest of the world. More please!

I really want to watch Loituma playng their songs live, too. But I can't because my country is too far away Finland and Europe. Their beautiful music really inspired me in my life, every single day. I almost know to sing like 4 songs of them. Greetings.

@@user-cp2jo1qx6vLooking is all you need to do. The lyrics are a part of the video both In English and Finnish. The poem by Larin-Kyösti ('Carl Gustav Larsson') can be found and it will reveal the words in verse as shown below. videlicet. I saw a wonderful shooting star, I thought: were you alone as I was, Did sorrow oppress your soul so tender From the midst of your cold friends, Did grief oppress your soul Did your soul, in the midst of cold friends. In the herb-flower soil of heaven Thou must have been small and in a cloud, Perhaps you did not shine like the others, Thou wast but a dream and a mist, Maybe you didn't shine like the others You must have been a dream and a mist Away you flew into space, And maybe you'll find what you're looking for, When you passed out in a new world A brighter, more beautiful glow you've found, When you passed out into a new world A brighter, more beautiful glow you have found.

Mostly formal, some informal mixed there, maybe to fit better in the melody and rhythm. It's also filled with a lot of poetic word order - a common feature in songs, for example: '(a) fair day' put to '(a) day fair', like English can do as well.

They are related; both are descendants of Proto-Uralic, but that doesn't explain why the song sounds "oddly Hungarian", as they are so distantly related. The song sounding like Hungarian is probably just a coincidence.
@zachary10777 жыл бұрын
+Gerbert Thorne Hungarian and Finnish are in fact related; they are both members of the Uralic group of languages. The Sami languages of northern Europe along with Estonian are also members of the Uralic languages.
@williamslattery74967 жыл бұрын
It's nice to know that there are people out there that appreciate the linguistic as well as the musical uniqueness of the Uralic peoples of Europe. Like my Celtic ancestors, our cultures and languages are in danger of being overrun by the Indo-European speakers.
