Love the boat layout and price point. Two people in my SWFL/ Cape Coral canal have Rhodan trolling motors and their motherboard inside keeps getting wet. Constant issues. They are too pricey to have so many issues. Like the boat, but Rhodan motor would be my only skepticism. Friends said Rhodan covered them warranty repair wise, but after warranty expires I would be concerned.

Cool new boat. BTW Pickerel and Pike are not the same fish Pickerel only get around 24" and up to 5lbs,Northern Pike can get up to 60" and 55lbs. Although for some reason they do sometimes call Chain Pickerel, Southern Pike, Gator fish, Gunny or Slime Darts. All just nicknames.

My dad had a rowboat from the 60's that he had until about fifteen years ago with an even older Evinrude engine. He used to use it a lot. We built a rack over the top of the trailer were we could mount two canoes on top of the boat. He built the trailer using an axle from an old hay wagon so it had full sized tires on it. Then about two years ago he got his step dad's boat that was even older with a wrecked trailer. We have taken steel wool to the boat and then put fresh paint on it Meanwhile his nice bass boat just sits in the shed didn't even get used last year We took his and my canoes and turned them into a motorized catamaran with lawn chairs to sit on and a tiltable trailer. Makes it real easy to unload and reload it. Has a pulley system. It's cool having a retired engineer for a dad. He has the money and ideas and three sons to make stuff for him.

That Merc 60R is the cats meow. It lacks some top end but gets up quick. The throttle to drive response on it at any speed is remarkable for its size. I just sold my boat and 150 merc and now considering finding an older smaller boat to put a new 60R on it. The price is very fair on it as well. At the price, performance, and 9-10 mpg it’s up there for one of the better bang for your buck outboards.

The platform is like a Florida backwater boat if you intend to do much river and shallow water fishing get yourself a aluminium pole to pole those areas. It will save your trolling moter and lower unit. The Pickerel was a great fish to christin the boat, since you do fish multi species trips. With that 50 racer it will also make a fun boat for skiing and tubing behind on family trips.

A centre-console like this is one of the most common types where I live (SE Queensland, Australia), but they tend to have more freeboard as they're more commonly used in saltwater, so deeper water and larger swells. In open water, bass boats are death traps. It'd be interesting for you to get Darrells take on your 'interaction'. Not saying you should film it or anything like that. Over here it's standard for a new boat to come fully kitted out and registered, legal and ready for the water, as part of the purchase price. Second-hand, it's on you.
@OneOut18 ай бұрын
In the US this isn't classified as a "bass boat", it's a center console skiff. Much more designed for inshore saltwater fishing.

You think it could use some trim tabs, it looks like it took a bit to get on plane. Nice boat, I like the deck layout, the thrust on the troll motor will hold you in current and I would recommend a jack plate so you can run shallow. Look into some trim tabs. I saltwater fly fish down in the shallow Texas bays and my boat can float in 3" but takes about 6" to run with the jack plate up. With the motor tilted up you should be able to pole in 6" of water and that looks like it would pole really well.
@williamsiler5074 Жыл бұрын
That is a poling platform, not a casting deck. Put the remote lanyard around your neck. You will get used to it. Far less chance it will go for a swim. If your boat ends up in Calif waters: 1. Throwable on boats 16' or larger {can't be stowed} 2. Wearable for each one on board. 3. Only boats with outboard AND portable fuel tank don't need an extinguisher. Fly fishing is a learned art. From the Googan group Weston is probably the most advanced. I am a stricly a fly guy. Your skiff would work well chasing stripers in the CA delta. Enjoy it LoJo! P.S. I operated a Sheriff boat in NorCal for 27 years.

If you have any contact with Alk2 powerboats please suggest to them that they might want to put prices on their website for their products because not everybody wants to sit and have a 20 or 30 minute conversation just to get the price of boat Love the video. I’m blue collar…I’m an ups driver. The price is a lot….but doable for sure. It’s all about where you put your intention. I can work five or six months of overtime, and have this boat paid off. Just with the overtime pay. So I would argue the point on being outta the price range for working class people. It’s all about where you put your paycheck, paying cash for stuff….not carrying more debt than a mortgage when at all possible…and I know that’s not always possible. Crap happens…it has to me. Been in debt…it happens…and man it sucks. But I hope if a boat like this ever excites you? You know you can make it a reality! It’s all about the grind baby! Tight lines! 👍

With that casting platform at the back, could you get the guys at ALK to retro fit a drop down foot platform to the underside? That way if the water is a bit choppy on the surface, you can sit on it and have support for your feet. I fly fish, the last thing you need is a super unstable platform to cast from? You could also do with a detachable line tray, so that when you're retrieving/stripping back the line goes into the tray and doesn't coil/get tangled around your feet. That can lead to all kinds of issues, like falling overboard. I can definitely teach you some basics, I can definitely teach you how to cast, line types, line retrieval techniques, how to match a hatch, fly types (dry, wet, lure, nymph etc), when to use fly floatant and line floatant (for dry fly fishing to maintain a top water presentation), what features to look for and where to present your fly..... But you'll have to meet me at L&M next year for that? You WILL need to invest in some top quality polarised wrap sunglasses and a heavy duty wide brimmed hat (preferably leather), these will save a nasty trip to the hospital if you screw up a back cast or forward cast. Possibly save your eyesight too if you get the line wrapped around your head and the fly stuck in an eyeball. I've seen some very close calls out on the water. Be prepared to lose flies if you whipcrack a forward cast instead of forward casting? That fly will break the sound barrier if you do... And believe me, you don't want that too often.! I'd probably recommend a 10ft rod rated at 8/9 weight forward, with 8/9 weight forward lines. Definitely go with a floating line as you like top water so much, you can fish dry, nymph, wet, lure with it, nymph, wet and lure just under the surface. As for sub surface lines, it depends how fast/deep you want to go.? An intermediate line will sink to a certain depth and stop - suspending your fly mid water level (depending on the depth of water). A slow sinker will drop to the bottom slowly (funnily enough) and a fast sinker - guess what? 😂. You also have fast sink express line which will drop your wet fly down through the water column super fast so you can hopefully bypass the shoals of small fish and hopefully hit the bigguns on the bottom. I've always fancied taking a large Bass off of the surface with a floating line and size 20 dry fly.... You've got a real bonus in the fact you've got a nice backyard water to practice on AND you've got a massive backyard to practice your casting technique and accuracy. That certainly helps before you go thrash some water and scare all the fish away?! 😂 Can't wait to see the new boat adventures in the new year.
@lojofishing Жыл бұрын
Dude great info!! Thank you!!
@BenBallard13 Жыл бұрын
@@lojofishing any time Lojo. I will add this? I use a British Army chest rig when fly fishing (I'm in the UK), it's extremely handy for using it to carry kit. The large waist pouches can be used to carry spare reels or spare spools loaded with different line types, fly reels are designed so you can drop spools into the carcass like cassettes. I use the mag pouches to carry small compartment type fly boxes. This means you can carry multiple fly types for changing fly and fishing style, saves you from digging around in boat compartments in a hurry. I use the chest map pockets to carry my knife and artery forceps for unhooking. I also carry a pair of heavy duty nail clippers for cutting off knot ends so the hook eye is as clean as possible? Always leave a small amount for leader slip in case you get smacked by a large fish.? The map pockets are also handy for first aid kit (just in case of a casting accident) and a "priest" for administering last rites if you're taking fish home to eat. It's a small cosh type instrument, some are double ended. The other end is a marrow spoon that you can use to excavate the fish's stomach contents so you can see exactly what they're feeding on. Some fly fishing vests will have a loop on the base of them and a velcro flap on the opposite side, up near the front of your shoulder. This allows you to put the rod butt in it when you've run your line through the eyes and secure the rest of the rod against you. Your hands are then free to tie on your fly without worrying about stepping on your rod. It can also be used when changing fly. Look at using a 6 turn half tucked blood knot (it's super easy to tie and very strong for strike resistance and playing) for fly attachment. Tight Lines!
