Am loving this new campaign Ruinous! Please keep it going! The Magistrate lords used to have a Lantern mount which was broken against any army that didn't have flyers, but they're still great at buffing an army

I like to think of Cathay as, like the empire, but different, putting the issue of power creep aside....plus Cathay gets to deal with early skaven and lizards, while the empire doesent really, in my experience anyway

If you build the yin buildings, you get a growth bonus with the yin bonus for regions.

Between Clan Eshin, Mazdamundi, and Lokhir, Ruinous has plenty of enemies to deal with in both Cathay and Lustria. Not for long once Ruinous gets the ball rolling.

As regards the strength of empire units, whether in Fantasy or 40K, you play the Empire when you really want to have every debuff affect you catastrophically. Just about every other faction has exceptions of immunities.

The empire has cavalry and the better and more varied artillery options. Plus they have a hero roster that puts Cathay to shame and is going to fill the one hole in thrones with the engineer

Though it has been some time since I played Cathay in vanilla, I do recall mostly agreeing with your assessment. I remember thinking they were a lot more fun to play than vanilla Empire, managing harmony, yin/yang buffs, and all that. Playstyle-wise, I found them to be somewhere between Empire and Dwarfs, actually, what with their boxy battles and inward-focused strategic gameplay. Regarding power creep, I think you are probably right. Hard to imagine playing as the Empire in RoC against all those demons, no? I hope Empire gets a rework pass soon. SFO does a lot for the Empire to improve their play, imo.

as usual, the Magistrate is such a letdown, they're probably still one of the worst lords in the game, at least the new lord is pretty good in combat, from what i've seen at least, still Cathay is probably my favorite race in the game, i really like Yuan Bo's campaign, you get so much variety to fight - Dark elves, Lizards, Vampire counts, Vampire coast, skaven, Tzeentch, Humans( new world Colonies), there's even a Khorne faction in Lustria), Norsca, Woodies(there's a wood elf faction in Cathay incase anyone wants to know) and if you want you can even fight High Elves and the French, i really like this campaign and it's a fractured Empire type of campaign, i love managing both sides of the world

Id say i dont really agree with cathay being over tuned or power creep, but i think the only thing that they have over the empire is the jade warriors whichh are just heavy armor swordsman but very valuable thats really it other than magic constructs.

Also cathay has no skirmish anything and lacking heros which both the empire excel in, while I think cathay edges out in the infantry and magic constructs\support the empire wins everywhere else

Empire has a better hero roster and access to better magic lores. I know you intentionally play sub-optimally for self nerfing/entertainment value, but the "meta" with Empire has always been using the lord and 3-4 melee heroes (preferably warrior priests) to serve as a front line to hold and blob enemy infantry for gun lines and arty to mass murder with 1 life wizard and 1 damage wizard for healing and more aoe damage. Cathay lacks good melee heroes and until this DLC lacked any good non-legendary melee lord. They also have weaker magic lores and no access to healing magic outside of Mao Ying.
