While this would have made a great Cinema Therapy episode, it's great that you're talking about it on this channel because of just how applicable it is to so many people these days. Many of us try too hard to be something we're not and end up hurting ourselves in the long run. Many of us want love but don't feel worthy of it or are too afraid to open ourselves up to be loved. Many think it's Tom Hiddleston's attractiveness and charisma that make us like Loki so much, but in actuality, it's because Loki is so similar to us.

the thing i love about the Loki series, is that Loke needed EVERYTHING that happened, to happen, to become the best version of himself. He needed to watch himself from outside of himself, he needed to meet his variants, who he could have become, and he needed every opportunity that came his way.

His acting talent is even bigger if you consider that in the scene where he looks into the recorded future he did all this with a blank wall and a broad description what he sees. A line from the song Pushit from the band Tool comes to mind: There is no love in fear.

I wasn’t expecting much with the first Loki episode when I first watched the show, but the moment that Loki confessed that he hurt others as a desperate bid for control I understood why I lashed out at my siblings da lot of the time, because I grew up as the family scapegoat, and so because of that I hurt others before anyone could get a chance to hurt me first. It was eye opening for me and also a way to be more compassionate towards the little girl me, who spent so much of her time being angry, which I realized the reason behind the anger after watching the first episode of Loki. The show is really close to my heart because of that

I used to project being angry and tough all the time. I wore giant rings, carried myself with wide shoulders and facing straight ahead, all because I was tired of being bullied. My friend circle knew what was going on, but anyone else just thought I bristled at being stared at or spoken to. And all it was, was trying to diminish the opportunity for people to pick at me. I put forth the idea that if someone couldn't see past my scary exterior and want to get to know me beyond that, they didn't deserve to be my friend. How wrong I turned out to be.

6:45 This reminds me of the classical novel Doctor Glas: "People want to be loved; failing that admired; failing that feared; failing that hated and despised. They want to evoke some sort of sentiment. The soul shudders before oblivion and seeks connection at any price." That quote has a lot of wisdom in it. Can't say I'm either of those things, but I wish I was

I liked the old German man saying 'Their are always men like you" I think the old man was referring to Hitler, but that's how Loki was acting right then, like a murderous dictator. I'm so proud of how Loki has grown and changed. And I bet his adoptive parents and brother would be proud of him too. "Are you proud of me mother?" I think the answer now is yes. Loki and Rocket are the ones that have changed the most in MCU, and for the better. They are the ones that had the most trama as well. Poor Rocket. Whether you hate to love them, or love to hate them, they have changed.

I loved this, a lot of reviewers tend to say about characters "it's not real someone would react like this" but all people are a world of their own and their reactions and attitudes are infinite, sometimes only making sense to them alone, and I think it is an interesting exercise to have a profesional try and analyze a character as they come, trying to make real world sense of the attitudes that screenwriters gave them.

People are so complicated. I’m glad that you are offering a hopeful take on people who tend toward narcissism. I’d love to more on other tendencies like schizoid, histrionic (wish there was a better word for that), obsessive etc. Sometimes it’s very hard to tell what you’ve got on your hands when it comes to someone hiding who they really are.

Thor is canonicaly in his twenties in human years. He is actually 1500 years old. Loki is a a little over 1000. That means, assuming they age at the same speed, which is likely, given no one knew Loki was adopted for centuries, Loki can be 14 in human years at least, and 19 at most, around sixteen or seventeen being most likely. He's an actual kid. Just try watching MCU with this context.

I loved this series, Loki is such a complicated character and it doesn't hurt that Tom Hiddleston looks good doing it. It's always hard to decide if Loki is an asshole or a hurt child. He has zero impulse control but the other gods continue to keep him around. I just finished reading The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec, it gives a behind the scene look at Loki's time with Angrboda and why he does some of the things he does, like killing Balder.

Did you watch Loki season 2? I followed it week for week and I extremely liked the finale and where the character has gotten! Really would love to have Jono's thoughts on Loki's evolution in the series (both seasons) so far, and Alan's takes on the filmmaking part, which I really liked far more than the first season (primarily the vfx, postproduction and direction, except some writing issues that do not bother me too much, since the finale just pays it off so well...)

Conflict resolution has become a big part of my life, more by accident than by choice but I've grown to like it. Two things I've learned: work to understand the other person, and never dismiss or malign them. Although I have to say it strikes me as odd that Loki would say he doesn't want to hurt people. He had a plan, and hurting people was a part of it. More likely is that he's had a change of heart and is now experiencing guilt. Just my two cents... haven't watched all of the movies, but this moment didn't feel convincing to me based off his character. (Also, he repeats the statement and adds a lot of emphasis which makes me think he's trying to convince himself of it more than anything. That's not a black mark on his part, because it's obvious he's missing connection in his life and genuinely wants to change.) Fantastic video as usual.

Then Loki falls in love with the female version of himself. Can't get anymore narcissistic than that, tbh. But, by being a Loki, she's the only one who truly understands that he's not the villain archetype that everyone claims he is and that he keeps his frailty and fear of being forever loveless hidden deep inside. I think early on, his dad put that villain archetype onto him, and eventually Loki decided to fit the mold instead of fight it. That's why he holds onto her so tightly I think. He wants so badly to be accepted and understood, and if he's not there by her side, then he'll be alone, misunderstood, hated and shunned by whoever surrounds him. He found a good thing and desperately wants to keep it. Such a great character arch.

I have my... reservations about this show. For one, I kept wondering why Loki believes what the TVA shows him about his other's future. He's still a conniving lil shit, a trickster, why would he trust these images so fast?
@carmen_says_hi
@carmen_says_hi Жыл бұрын
Good question. I think because Loki's seen how different the TVA is from his reality. The infinity stones are useless there. Also, I think the scenes he sees from his other life are completely plausible. He got caught on Earth and was going to be sent to Asgard. Even if he wasn't responsible for his mother's death (which I don't believe he was), he still loved her and would want revenge on whoever killed her. Deep down he knows Thor loves him and, given time, he would make amends with him and fight alongside him again. He might have been truly surprised to actually hear Odin say he loved him after all Loki did. My two cents.

I've never understood that phrase, "a leopard can't change its spots." What do the spots have to do with its behaviors? Also, presumably, some of them can go "gray" over time and fade to the point where they become unnoticeable (unlikely, but not impossible). Regardless, it's just another one of those stupid turns of phrase that gives the impression that people are special and animals aren't. . Neither are special, because sentience isn't special. Anything that is alive, at all, is fundamentally sentient, capable, to some degree, of sensing itself and its surroundings, and distinguishing between them. Sapience is the important factor, and that requires active and consistently predictive decision-making, something humans are not capable of. Humans are as enslaved by their subconscious as any other animal. We just have more window dressing for the results. But our decision-making is absolutely no different at all, than that of any other beast, and until we either "evolve" so that our brains operate in the reverse of their current format, or we deliberately modify ourselves to be so, that will not, and cannot, be changed. . The problem is, that doesn't mean we're stuck being assholes. We can learn to a limited extent, and we can modify our behaviors to a similarly limited extent, accordingly. People are far too black and white on that kind of issue, and others. Sometimes it goes one way, sometimes another. And some people actually can't change, just as some people are insane and incapable of consistent behavior at any level. It all depends on a variety of factors, but mostly physiology as determined by genetics, physical trauma, chemicals, or germs that affect the brain. There's no software...everything about thought is a matter of structure and composition of the brain. There is nothing beyond that.
@johnwalker1058
@johnwalker1058 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. It's just a bad turn of phrase based on the logical fallacy of "apples-to-oranges comparison." As you pointed out, how does one compare a leopard's spots to the actions of a person's behavior?
