I'd like to point out, that the "ST"-Button is for "Stereo". That means, that the line, on which the ST-button has been pressed, routes to the regular "Stereo Out". The "1-2"-button is for putting the signal on that line to the "Group 1-2" line out. Please make sure you read the manual before you review it. :) It even says so (also it's color coded...)

Other than the ST button which was already answered on what it is. There is also a 1-2 button. This assignment button routes the channel to the fader to the left of master. Which should also be laleled 1-2. This is called a sub master. Sort of "Grouping" So you can group multipule inputs into one fader without taking the master fader down.. The submaster also has a stereo asignment button which would of course route the submaster to the master output fader Hope this helps Great video! PS. Dont leave ST and 1-2 assignment buttons engaged at the sametime on one channel, it will essentially double the volume going to the outputs

The mixer has two outputs ST and 1/2. The bottoms allow you to put let’s say all the vocals in ST so now the ST fader controller all the vocal channels then put all the other inputs in 1-2 and volume fader 1-2 will control all those other inputs. So now have separate volume control for vocals and for everything else. Lower the ST fader will lower all the mics together. Lower the 1-2 fader and it will lower very thing else but the vocals. Used more for live performances and blending. Hope that helps. Great mixer.

A one knob compression actually doesn't "raise the low volumes". It is more accurate to say that it lowers the higher ones and then raises the whole compressed signal to make it the same than before compression, on average. The original goal of a compressor is not that much to allow you to speak far from the mic, even if it can be used that way in the end. But nice review :)

No matter how many inputs you have going into the mixer, they will all come out as 2 tracks into your computer DAW software. Those tracks will be in time with each other. If you record those 2 tracks, then record another track on top of that, you will have latency. The 3rd track will need to be edited in your DAW and moved to sync up to the first 2 tracks.

I use this mixer and the USB out is only recording the STereo mains left & right. Not Mic 1&2. I know that there is no info on if it does multitrack recording which means all inputs and STereo mains left and right can be recorded on individual channels in the DAW (recording software) at the same time. ST means stereo.

Am writing this comment June 2020. This mixer has USB out, and umpteen inputs. However, when you connect to a computer, you will be DISMAYED when you find that you only get either 2 mono tracks or ONE stereo track on your computer. Look at the specs on this PDF right from Yamaha, below. The state of the art now IS NOT A MIXER LIKE THIS ONE. It is so wonderful to have at least 4 input tracks on your computer, and be sure to get those specifications. Last month I got a Mackie mixer, ProFX6V3. 6 inputs, but only two tracks on to the computer. Very nice mixer, great mic preamps. So to record karaoke, I have to record one stereo track on to the computer, then create a second track, and record my vocals on that track. Whereas with a USB 4 input 4 output interface like a Scarlett 4i4 or Motu M4, I can record 2 people singing, plus two more inputs for either ONE STEREO recording or two instruments like drums or guitar. Here's Yamaha's specs: Only 2 tracks in and 2 out on USB: By the way, what's the use of USB outs? Glad you asked! It is for real live auditioning of what exactly is being recorded on the computer! It is just awesome! USB is going in, and instantaneously from the USB out, you listen with your headphones or monitor. usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/7/330987/mg12xu_en_ts_e0.pdf

From what I understand, this mixer, like most cheaper to mid range mixers has a 2x2 usb interface. Therefore, you'll only have a stereo mix output and 2 inputs which can be recorded at once? I do stand corrected?

I started building my new studio not long ago and needed/wanted a board. I came REALLY close to buying one of these Yamaha mixers....they are supposedly quite decent for their price class. It was between a Yamaha MG12xu, a 12-channel Presonus StudioLive, or a Soundcraft mtk12. Was gonna go for an Allen & Heath, but sadly it didn't do what I needed. While the Yamaha does record to daw via usb, it Only allows you to record/playback a 2-channel stereo track.... the Presonus I believe actually does allow you to record/playback multitracks or just a 2-track stereo track to onboard SD card. None of them allowed multitrack recording/playback/overdub etc....except the Soundcraft!! I LOVE the Soundcraft and there is NOT one single mixer in its class or price range that can compete!!! If you want a board of good quality that allows multitrack recording to your daw, get a Soundcraft!!

Hi Bud, the one to get is the reaper latest version which is version 5.974 last updated on april 6th check the version you need i.e. mac, windows or linux. This daw is so easy to install and great to use very intuitive and with many drop down menus to help you out, all versions of reaper are complete and fully functioning and come with a ton of vsts, i will never go back to pro tools or any of the other overly expensive corporatist offerings all i want is a good sound flexibility and adaptability reaper has all this, the reaper team let you evaluate it and if you love just pay them $60.00 and then you can register your version with them, even if you are not registered you can update to the newest one free with no hassle , the download is automatic and it keeps all your work flow vsts media intact just like the version you had before. it is superb, hope you enjoy it as much as i do. cheers. In 9:28 : Devices-> VST connections -> on the input tab, press the button "add bus", select 2 mono inputs and assign them to the other outputs of your Yamaha mixer. I think it has 4 mono outputs and 1 stereo out(the main mix). let me know if I'm wrong. So in this inputs tab of Cubase, you should normally have 4 mono ins (the 4 mic/line direct outs from your mixer) + one stereo input,from the main stereo of your mixer.Total of 6 inputs. Can you check it for me please?

I bought Behringer 2222FX mixer. Realized that the LED bulp voltage signal is captured by the main mix out. When the LEDs are blinking (levels) I could hear some clicks. I returned the mixer to the agent and we checked in more advance versions of Behringer, and found the same defect. Simply the LED voltage is leaking to the audio signal processing board. Then I went for Soundcraft. I lost my trust on Behringer even though I have quite a bit of Behringer equipment (MDX 4600, Ultragain 100, DI20 box, UMC 404 sound card)
@thewatcher6116 жыл бұрын
#1, you were using an "old" Behringer...they had terrible preamps back then. Yamaha does pretty well in clean, high headroom. #2, "ST" button is to send this channel to the "STEREO" mix. the 1-2 Button will send the channel to the "GROUP 1-2".... gives you some options for recording/live mixing options. Maybe you are playing something you don't want to really record, like a backing track.... for live mixing, same thing, you can send a couple channels to the "Group" fader, and just control them live with that, say all the vocals, or all the instruments. #3...I'm really glad you played with the gain, EQ, and compression, and used that recording on KZbin, great job! I think Yamaha does really well with the single knob compressor. Thanks, good review!

I would say that this is primarily a live mixing desk, for mixing a live band, or more likely, for the live band to mix themselves. A Podcaster or home music maker doesn't really need so much functionality and it just adds up to 'too complex' as the reviewer notices when just trying to get sound out! Things like the ST button or the mute button on the main stereo out fader - perfect for a band, but just another layer of complexity for a podcaster or home music maker. It's a stereo-out only USB interface meaning that once you have mixed your bands levels, you can hit record and capture a stereo recording of the entire thing. It won't give you separate outputs for each microphone as it only has 2 analogue to digital converters inside - one for the left channel and one for the right. Nothing to do with the software and, frankly, not a massively useful feature. A live desk mix of a band is rarely much more than a curiosity as it isn't balanced for recording, only for the live performance. A Podcaster probably just needs an audio interface with a couple of microphone inputs. You can do compression and FX in the recording software (even Audacity) much more effectively and safely. Fun review, but no real understanding of how and why the desk works and I get the distinct impression that the reviewer only really needs a simple £200 audio interface, not a £600 mixing desk.

This series of mixers, and many similar mixers by other manufactures, only do stereo out through the USB. It's not a function of the DAW software or the driver. You really have to get into much more expensive USB or Firewire mixers to support more than two channels. I have the 16 channel version of this mixer, and there is also a 20 channel version. None of them support more than two channels. That's simply how they are built. Also, the sound is attenuated before going to the A/D converter for USB output. Meaning, it's a quieter signal than what you would get via your basic analog stereo outs. According to a Yamaha support engineer, who I talked to on the phone, he said this is done on purpose, so the signal does not clip going into your DAW. Yours has routing to one group out (1-2), and the master stereo channel (ST). Mine has two group outs (1-2 and 3-4), and 4 aux sends (3 plus the effects send.) I'm exploring the idea of using some of these outputs sort of like direct outs (the ideal kind of output to go to a multi-channel interface, imo.) But that means I loose a few aux outs, which I want to use for mix-minuses for things like Skype calls. While I can't manage as many "direct outs" as I would like, I can probably get a few to work. I haven't done this yet, as I only have a 2 channel interface (Focusrite 2i4) for my PC. My future plans are a mixer with 8 actual direct outs, and an interface with that many inputs. Six will probably be enough for most uses, so I'll have a few to spare. (My future setup would then handle 4 in-studio mics, a stereo input for sound clips and music, and several more inputs sent back out aux sends, as well as the direct outs, for Skype or phone calls.) While I would like to have that future setup now, I'm going to make this work with what I have. I originally did not want to do mult-track recording and a lot of post production. I was basically planning on going "live to drive." Now I'm leaning more toward multi-tracking at this point, at least for certain purposes. I'm not doing music recording, just podcasting. But eventually I want to have a setup for music recording as well, so I think I'll make good use of those future investments. Btw, I enjoy your videos. I just started watching recently. Thanks for making them!

Hi, nice explanation bout the mixer, but I've some question: 1st: It is compatible with Ableton live 10? 2nd: Can I mix a track with that? 3rd: Ir it has compatibility with Ableton live 10 how can assign the knobs to fit my template?
@yaroproductions25595 жыл бұрын
it is compatible with ableton has limited mixing capabilities it is not midi controller, only works as audio interface. FYI I have that mixer with cubase 10 pro and as sound interface is awesome.

This is the best video of explanation. Audio and all. Can I ask - How do you have this connected to the PC so that you can record multiple channels. By USB or Whatever???? Im using Mixcraft 8 as the DAW.

I have a question regarding speaker feedback from my voiceover microphone: I purchased the MG 10XU and was able to hook up my powered monitors (which workfine either using the monitor outs or the stereo outs equally well). The audio coming in from the computer through the USB was flawless. The issue I have is feedback through the speakers when trying to record. My former mixer (another USB mixer made by Alesis) has a feature called "Auxiliary Sends" which allows me to keep the main microphone level knob down to zero and I use the AUX SEND knob to feed a line output to my computer (unfortunately the USB [OUTPUT] on this mixer doesn't work no matter what I do). So, with the Alesis using the Aux Send, I can record even at a high gain with no feedback whatsoever through the speakers... and then, I can immediately play back anything and without having to press any buttons or turning knobs (yet, with playback, everything coming through the speakers, gloriously. (If I try turning up the level knob in the lower left, I get of course the feedback, but with the Alesis, I can leave it at zero). Now, with the Yamaha, there are no Aux Sends anywhere on the board - is this why I am not able to record without the feedback (unless I mute the audio out every time)? In any event, I got the Alesis hobbling along again and the sound is decent, so I'm living with that (the downside being I am running analog and using the soundcard, rather than using USB interface which is what I wanted to do with the Yamaha). The reason I'm reaching out with this comment is, I'm wondering if there is a workaround to mute those speaker outputs while not having to adjust anything every time I go to record (which is very often as a voiceover artist doing auditions all day long). Or is this mixer just not designed that way? Thanks in advance!

hi there. I have 2 questions regarding this mixer...MY 1st question is does it records all the channel separately, I mean all 10 or 12 channel individually in DAW and 2nd question is does onboard effects works in recording or just for analog output?? for example ,if I have selected one of reverb and put it on 1st channel mic, does the software record the mic with effects or without effects over usb??

Did you find the answer to your questions? If so what mixer/interface did you go with? Thanks

I don't see any downloads for the MG10XU mixer in the Firmware and Software downloads section. I do see the Steinberg driver for Apple though. I am a bit miffed about buying this mixer though since I thought I'd be able to plug my USB Blue Yeti microphone into the USB mixer and it work flawlessly. The USB is only meant to hook into your computer and at this point I don't know why that's a big deal. Now it looks like I may have to buy a XLR mic to work with this mixer.

Hi, I am planning to buy yamaha mixture... but I am little bit confused to choose.. please help.. which one is the below I need for recording and mixing Yamaha MG12 12-Input 4 Bus Mixer Or Yamaha MG12XU 12-Channel (6 XLR + 3 Stereo + Effects + USB) Analog Mixer Which is one best for me?
@LoKnows4 жыл бұрын
I would say the effects aren’t necessary but the option for USB to connect to your PC or Mac and interface it with your choice of audio editing program or as a sound card itself will be very useful!!

What is the name of the USB cable that connects the MG10 to the computer. My mixer came without a USB cable too.
@TheBabypod5 жыл бұрын
I don't understand what the computer/USB connection is used for. What would you be getting through the computer? I figured you plug in your microphones and instruments into the mixer and then just do the XLR cable out to my powered speaker. What use the computer for? Thanks, I'm a neophyte on this stuff. I got this mixer on order to hook up to two Harbinger Vari 2212 powered speakers i just ordered. I intend you use for me and my wife to do little duo gigs at nursing homes/55+ communities, and such.

Great review! 👍🏾 WOW, it came with 4 XLR cables!? What kind of bundle is that? Also, that kind of sucks it doesn’t come with a USB cable. 🤨 Question? I have a Yamaha MG 166cx. For some reason, when I plug microphones in, they are always on. And it doesn’t matter if I push the on off button, the microphone stays on. But, I can turn the sound off with the PFL button. Also, the faders don’t turn the volume up or down, I can only control the volume with the master. Do you know what this means? 🤔

Lo Knows, please forgive this question, if it's redundant, but this is a brand new world for me & I thought I understood until I began reading the comments below. My husband needs to be able to record songs from his djembe, his mbira & congas, as well as singing & then be able to mix them together, in addition to using the effects, and now it seems the Yamaha MG 12XU, is not the right equipment for this. Can you please confirm? I'm thinking we will need something like the Focusright Scarlett 18i20 (2nd gen) USB Audio Interface with Pro Tools mentioned below? Also, please recommend a mic as well? Thanks very much & I really loved your video...Maybe you could make one for the Focusright as well? Best. Kerrie
