The Yamaha MG12XU is a 12-channel analog mixer with USB interface. It's a great console for smaller bands, corporate rental and AV work as well as simple home recording. In contrast to the MG20XU series this one is filmed with me behind the camera, which allows you to see all the small details of the knobs, faders and controls.

@@GLBProductions Thanks. I get a lot of hum noise with 1.8 meters. I don't know if the size, or the quality of the cable is the reason. Or both.

Stan, does the mixer have a built in audio interface for smartphones?
@dansokolnicki1384
@dansokolnicki1384 Жыл бұрын
@@pennywiser9607 you'll need a special cable for that. It looks funky, three connections. A 3.5mm connector for your phone (which you'll probably need an adapter for) and then it splits off into two (an xlr, I believe, and a trs connected). Kettner creations channel does an excellent demo of it. Hope that helps.

Hello, thanks a lot for this excellent video ! I have the same for my drumset (4 dynamics micros & 2 overheads) and have somme questions : - 1) For the 2 Stereo Out, what is the best to use for an amplified speaker, XLR (balanced ) or Jack (TRS or TS ?) ? - 2) I also use this mixer to connect to a main mixer, what is the best connecting, XLR or Jack (TRS or TS ?) ? Do I have to use two Out or only one for connecting to the main mixer ? - 3) What is the difference between the 2 SEND (Aux 1 & Aux 2) & the 2 GROUP OUT ? Thanks again for your precious answer, musically, Emilio (France).
@GLBProductions
@GLBProductions 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Emilio! Some answers: 1. It depends on what the line input connectors on your powered speaker are - on some speakers the only line input available is a TRS connector. 2. Please watch my video on how to connect two analog mixers together - either connector can be used. 3. Aux sends can be pre- or post-fader, pre- or post-mute, and the amount of signal being sent can be varied independently of the fader position. Group outputs are always post-fader and post-mute, and the level of signal sent is always proportional the channel fader position. Aux sends are typically used for stage monitors or sending to external FX or recording units, groups are used more for managing groups of similar channels eg all your drum channels, all your vocals etc.

Great video. I've bought one of these mixer to use for a dual-pc stream. I've yet to set it up but I was wondering if you could clarify something for me... If I have 1 mic setup through channel one and it's going out through Aux 1 to PC 1 & Aux 2 to PC 2, if I use FX will it be on both inputs at the same time or is it isolated only to Aux 2? Lastly, if I just wanted to speak to one audience (aux) at a time without the other hearing me, am I able to mute that Aux output without interfering with the other? I'm very new to this, so this setup might not even work or make any sense. Some guidance would be appreciated. Thanks again!
@GLBProductions
@GLBProductions 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting question, not one I've gotten before! In this case, if you use the FX they will only ever go to Aux 1 - the internal FX cannot be sent to aux 2 when it is used as an external send because that would create a feedback loop. In your situation, may I suggest a simpler solution: use the L&R outputs to split your signal: connect PC1 to the left main output and PC2 to the right. If you want the signal to go to both PCs, pan the mic channel center. If you want it to go to PC1 only, pan hard left, and vice versa for PC2. This will give you full functionality of the effects for both destinations, and also keep both of them post-fader and post-mute. If you want to kill the feed to both PCs without disturbing the level, just switch the channel OFF.

for using the outputs of a DJ mixer that has XLR on the mains into a mixer, what i have been doing with my set up is running the XLR outs to the XLR ins of my yamaha MG10 so that i can use the eq to adjust the mains of the Bar / Club. I use the PAD feature of the channels and that mixer has a Stereo spread switch. Should I be using XLR out to TRS into the combo jack and that takes out the need for the pad switch? NOw I just bought he Allen and Heath ZED10FX to have a far better deck to travel with. in that scenario only channels 1 and 2 have 1/4 in line inputs but the XLR 's are "MIC" inputs, can I plug my Dj Mixer into those XLR in's or use a XLR to 1/4" TRS into those channels since that mixer does not have a PAD switch?

Either method is fine - into the XLR inputs with the PAD engaged, or into the TRS inputs. The former just makes it easier to connect using standard cabling.

You should be hired by Yamaha... or are you already? Well done. The very clear articulation is just perfect

I have a question. What if you were to push in the group button at any channel and the stereo button. Then at the master controls to the right, you push in the red button on group, and you turn up both ST and Group faders. Will that make any sound differences? I want stereo but a little confused if I were to select all options and how that would affect outcome

This will send the channel signal to the main outputs twice: once directly from the channel and once through the groups and group fader. There is really no good reason to do this and it can cause operator confusion.

Thank you so much for all your videos. I was just watching the detailed explanation of the Allen & Heath ZED60-14FX. Do you think that this Yamaha is better than the ZED? I'm actually struggling to decide between ZED60-10FX and MG10XUF, almost the same price range...what do you prefer? Thank you so much.

Between the two I would personally pick the A&H - they are significantly better built than the Yamahas. However you will need to look very carefully at the features of each mixer and determine which one better suits your needs 😉

In a live situation, can we use both dynamic and condenser microphones with 48v phantom power on in the same mixing console??? Or will it damage the dynamic microphone???

You can use both - just remember not to plug and unplug the XLR connectors with the phantom power on!

Great video!! How do I record with Pro Tools and Macbook with out bleed through while recording one track and listening to another?

This mixer is not really ideal for that sort of thing - you have to monitor off the group bus and disengage the ST switch on channel 11/12 in order to break the feedback loop.
