I tend to listen to TFS’ commentary on the series while I’m at work (the Dandy Man’s intro is retained there as well, btw!) and one of my favorite moments is Taka seeing Rip’s scene coming up, he gets out of his chair and sits in a corner elsewhere just so he doesn’t have to cringe at it, and after she says “checking your privilege,” Kaiser is trying to comment about the scene and you just hear Taka screaming from a distance “GET IT?! DID YOU GET IT?!?! I KNOW WRITERS WHO USE SUBTEXT AND THEYRE ALL COWARDS!”

I actually think it works better without the scene of Alucard seeing her ahead of time. The way he both dismantles her gimmick and ends her within a minute of landing, without any knowledge of/beef with her beforehand, is an important moment of badassery before he gets sidelined. Making his presence all the more missed in fights without him.

The Major's war speech is EPIC to hear no matter if it's dubbed or subbed. The dubbed version has him actually making that slurping sound when you get so much spit in your mouth you have to suck it back less it flies EVERYWHERE when you try to speak the next time because you are getting so amped up about what you're saying. Also when the manga first came out I legit thought Schrodinger was a chick at first....so yeah the "Why Boner" joke is very appropriate lol.

Honestly, van Winkle's character here is one of the parts that aged suprisingly well, for better and for worse lol Fun fact: Rip Van Winkle's name coms from the short story of the same name and her powers & character are based on the German opera Der Freischütz, which she loves in-universe. In fact that's why she fears Alucard, as he reminds her of the opera's villain.
