It's an honest emotion of finding yourself again but it also shows a bad impact of letting someone stay and be there for the person with no assurance of coming back. "If I ever come back" means that there is no guarantee or assurance of coming back. From my point of view, if this is a relationship, probably, it can be a selfish wish. I hope that people who are triggered by the song because they were once the person who waited and held on the promise realize that sometimes, letting go is the best answer. Sometimes, it won't be the also the only answer but I do believe that giving yourself a chance of exploring outside is better that hurting and staying in the dark :)

The lyrics of this song really expresses his thoughts more than he ever could. We had something though I wasn't really sure what it was. It was great for a week, then suddenly he left me hanging. He ghosted me. I was furious and sad and wondered what I did wrong. After a month, he messaged me and told me he was sorry and that he wasn't ready because of his unresolved issues.
