I thought I might share something interesting For those who don’t know, there is a French song in the early 2000s called ‘Moi…Lolita’ by Alizeé. As its namesake says, it is a song that seems to be inspired from the original novel. It’s mostly in the POV of Dolores, or a girl figure who is similar to her. It's a catchy tune on the surface, but the translated lyrics is something a bit different.

The star of the film was not Melanie Griffith or Jeremy Irons. It was the unknown actress Dominique Swain. I don't think she did much work after this film. Dominique was 15 when cast in the film, and maybe 16 when filming occurred. It was released when she was 17. I feel it is a superior film to the earlier version. The script is more loyal to the Lolita book written by Nabakov.

*deep breath* Lolita is a movie based of the book-lolita. It has a version from the 90’s and the 60’s. The one you’re seeing now is the 90’s. It tells the story of a girl-Dolores getting Sexually assaulted multiple times but by the eyes of the predator, Humbert. Humbert sees/tells about Lo or Lolita (Dolores) as being „flirty” or „manipulating” Humbert into being a creep. He sees her wearing short skirts and tank tops or sexual clothing, meanwhile, this is not happening, and Lo is just 12. The book is more obvious with this but what Humbert sees is NOT reality, theres a couple scenes that show that. If you search up say „murder me like you murdered my mother” on KZbin you’ll see a Lolita clip. Dolores is not wearing that what she „usually” wears. She is wearing what a 12 year old would wear. She isnt flirting with him saying „i hate you~” as some sort of joke. No, she hates him for stripping away her childhood from her and the fact her mother killed herself because of him. The 90’s movie got a bit of backlash because people think that It’s potrayed as a love story, don’t know what I can add to this.
