It was hard trying not to cry upon hearing this the first time on the way to a train station. It made me realise that, somehow, I feel emotionally attached to these characters having not even played P5R. Then that got me thinking back to probably the saddest moment I’ve had in recent memory, saying goodbye to all my friends over two days due to the school closure announcement. I suppose the best part about this song is that final chorus, from the regular to an opposite starting line. It’s glorious, and now I’m feeling sad again after typing out this reply over the course of the entire song. Anyways, agree with ya there.

The subtle change from the original lyrics in the verses is so interesting, because it takes the Character who's perspective this is in (vague to avoid spoilers) to be less Passive and Offering and more Demanding. It goes from like "people tend to be sensitive to the new ways" to "dont worry about the new ways" and it gives such a subtle but distinct shift. I'm picky about lyrics being changed but I feel like this change didnt really change quality. Like I cant complain bc even tho its different, its Just as Good

I'm glad someone else noticed and felt the same about these lyric changes! I actually still feel so weird about the "no more tears shall drop from your cheeks anymore" to "fall from your eyes anymore" change tho. I don't seem to see any particular reason for that line to change and it always throws me off when I'm listening to it and kind of takes me out of the song. 😅 I'm more curious as to whether or not there IS a particular reason that line was changed in that way 🤔

If you just read the lyrics you'd think that this is a very uplifting song. But when combined with the actual song and context. It honestly gives a feeling of defeat and just sorrow. @@LazzyVamples oh no, she made a mistake, every single other positive is moot I'm guessing this was started just after the game released or at least when this song was released in order to be timely, and they probably didn't have official lyrics to go off of. Lynn is a beautiful singer, but her pronunciation can be...hard to decipher. Other channels have had similar issues when making covers of P5 songs, I think it was Caleb Hyles who had "I'm not a robot AND I'M challenging you" instead of "AI challenging you", and its not like he doesnt care about the quality of his covers.

I don't see anyone talking about the change in the lyrics "don't sleep through dreams that can come true" to "don't sleep through dreams that CAN'T come true", it's a subtle audible change, but fits with Maruki's whole ideal, his ideal of not sleeping on the chance to erase all pain and strife, the words "don't sleep through dreams that can come true" imply the dreams could already be realized without Maruki's deal, while the words "don't sleep through dreams that can't come true" imply that only Maruki can realize these dreams for them, that the phantom thieves shouldn't have to go through dreams of the unattainable, but should instead wake up, see what the offer is, and throw away their masks to be granted their perfect lives, in line with what Maruki believes, he believes that he is the one true hero, removing pain and grief, when his reality is flawed, and simply makes them forget why they were who they were, makes them lose who they really are.

(Minor Spoilers ahead, brace yourselves.)The song would be called Throw away your mask (Act Two Reprise). The song is sung from the phantom thieves perspective. The song is sung by the phantom thieves as a full group during the chorus and it is sung by one member of the thieves at a time during the verse. But this time, they're singing against Dr. Maruki, not the other way around. This version is more of their way of saying "You can't just hide behind your own mistakes and claim your own reality is constantly perfect in every way."

Can someone explain the opening line of the refrain, though? "Don't sleep through dreams that can't come true"... is Maruki telling them that their hopes for the future are wasted on the real world, or is he telling them to seize the opportunity to live out their dreams? In the end, the message is the same, but I can't decide between the two.
