I’ve never cared about attributes. I’ve downloaded training plans and things in the past, but it just seems like a lot of time wasting busy work that doesn’t justify the time spent on it. It might make a tiny difference - but I do alright without having to waste all that time, I can live without the tiny difference!

Because most of what you see is nonsense that you don't need to do - training, player interactions and team talks being at the top of the list. None of it makes any difference.

As an additional thought, when you set your responsibilities, you don't have to use your DoF to initiate player signings or suggest transfer targets - you can set it to another staff member if they have better attributes for judging ability and potential and/or world knowledge.

Great video. I am surprised how even with a relatively weak recruitment team that you have identified and signed so many great bargains. None of the faffing around either. Your Beta save with Peterborough is great example of building a team of world class young players.

Indeed 🤣 I used to micromanage everything, now I've dropped quite a few of the responsibilities largely because of Kev's influence and I have to say first of all I don't notice any significant drop in performance but also the seasons move a lot smoother and quicker. I still have to remember to utilise my DoF more, I tend to forget to ask for recommendations once I no longer need free transfers.

Can use this technique in older FM's, but as Kev has said, it makes it easier to do so in the Newer FMs by not overcomplicating it. ( being smart with the staff and reviewing what they say to get good signings for a low fee ( like a Brentford or Brighton technique). If only some RL clubs could learn from this!

Hi Kev. Great video, not played FM for a couple of years as always found it hard work and seeing this is tempting me to get FM23, and rely on my staff. Was it the chief scout that left your best scout Dowling unassigned so he can be used to get the final reports on anyone you are keen on signing? Do you manually ask for Dowling the do the final scout report for each player? Also noticed you don't fiddle with your tactics that much, maybe another tutorial video idea?

Darlington would actually make a solid BMW, he’s never gonna make it as a RB long-term but swapping him to either a CM or DM with a BMW role could really increase his longevity and versatility

@@bamboohpenguin5528 yea that’s what I meant, he has terrible crossing and dribbling and I have a penchant for trying to turn average looking full backs with good defending attributes into solid ball winning midfielders. The AI is dumb and will sell you fantastic regens for extremely low prices just because they’re bad as full backs.

Question - Do you prioritise players with the Wonderkid media title? I see players with higher potential (according to scouts), who don't have that media description? Also, can the wonderkid be added later, if EG you signed a 16 year old with no reputation, can they become a wonderkid later? Thanks mate.

Doing a network save with a mate, spent about 4 seasons taking control of scouting trying to follow other hints/tips, got bored, left it to my staff and the best players i have now all came from the AI doing its own thing. Spend so much time trying to get the best staff in the league and then dont trust them to do anything, makes no sense when you think about it.

Exactly. Sometimes people get a little lost in overcomplicating the game.

There's a reason why the star ratings are there, people rule them out because they think there is a deeper meaning behind them or they do not tell you much, yes your scouts ability can be the difference on the preciseness of the rating, but honestly its not that deep and you'll still be successful.

Some players greatly underperform or overperform their star rating. Least you run into guys complaining of Ben Brereton Diaz or rave about some underwhelming player.

What star rating do you think a young player is ok for the first team? And what makes you decide what players go out on loan?

If they're 2.5/3 stars current ability with 5 star potential they're probably ready for a spot in the first team squad. Anything lower than that they'll get loaned out, unless I need them to become home grown at club.

if you play a game with the editor on you can see how much top leagues like the prem supercharge young players current ability that just isn't possible if your in a lower rated league even with perfect facilities.

although i do my own scouting half the great young players are just preset/autoset recruitment focus from the staff. ive made hundreds of millions of profit, which is handy when your everton and have 900m debt at the start of the game

console (to me at least) seems to have literally no way of scouting so you just kinda have to hope your scouts find the right guys. i could be missing something tho

Great vid, when you use the DoF to suggest transfer targets is there a way to suggest youngsters as mine is signing/ suggesting players above the ages of 28?

It will suggest players that match your club vision. So negotiate to add “sign players under 23” to the club vision, and that’s what they’ll recommend.

the more i play at lower league levels the more i realize attributes don't mean shit, ive had 1 star ability guys out preforming 4 star guys just because of there mentality and other stuff. attributes look nice but i feel if the player has a right mentality consistency and good work rates and such they'll always do well.

Interesting, I tried this approach in my arsenal save and found it pretty unreliable. Maybe they have made it just slightly worse than optimal so if you want to find the next superstars you have to min-max, but it can do a pretty good job otherwise.

DOF recommendations definitely work. free transfers especially. otherwise just search players by reputation and maybe get a few loans.

Done everything in this video with the exception of using staff search to find the best scouts in my 1860 Munich save. Have the best staff in the Bundesliga.

There must be more to it than just the stars, I have 5 star potential players for Chorley and it says their 5 stars are at league 2 standard, is that just because I'm on Xbox and it's totally different.

@@mattsmith5421 The stars are based on the quality of your team. A five star potential at Chorley means they are equal to the highest potential on your team. You’ll notice when you pick up a few players with 4/5 stars and add them to your roster, the stars of the other players already on your roster begin to slip down. A five star potential on my Blyth team would be a 2.5 star on a Championship squad.

By 2-3 seasons in they should start coming through. Usually you’re looking for the newgens, who start at 15/16 years old, to turn 18 so you can sign them.

Just FYI the 4 gold stars and 1 white star doesn't = 5 star potential. They are 4 star potential. They are too young for your coaches and scouts to know their full potential, only one they reach 22 will you know for sure if they are 5 star potential or not. Depends massively on training and gametime.
