I've seen a lot of people use their exacto blades to sharpen their water color pencils to that super fine tip.

I've honestly never heard anyone discuss bristle length either... It's just kind of been trial and error figuring out what works best. I wish more people were open with their findings because I feel like it would make learning so much faster.

Hi, Lomi. Great work your hugely informative videos. I enjoy your content very much. I have a suggestion regarding sharpening watercolor pencils (and graphite pencils as well). When I was in art class in high school, the teacher gave us a great tip to "not sharpen off half a pencil when you work on detail" as she said. After you have sharpened the colour pencils, use fine grit sandpaper (above 200) to sharpen only the tip. It works wonders. You could also use a paper nail file. 😊

Ooh--I've tried sandpaper before and it didn't quiiite work for me, but I never thought of using an emery board! That might give me the extra bit of control I need. Thanks!

SUPER helpful information, thank you so so much for covering this!! Gene came out so beautiful too, wow! Suddenly I'm a lot more motivated to work on faceups again ahaha

Re: pencils- I actually sand mine and have pretty good luck. I also shave them down with xacto knives. I don't bother with a sharpener. YMMV. Thanks for the painting tips! My line work is... spicy in a bad way, haha.

Thank you for sharing this information! I've avoided longer bristled brushes for fear of having a lack of control. I learned a lot!

This video was DEFINITELY a game changer for me!!! Thank you! As far as a pencil sharpener ~ I always buy a makeup pencil sharpener, as they tend to be sharper for working on very soft makeup pencil cores. Hope that's helpful to someone. 😊

Have u tried sharpening the water colour pencils with a knife? Great vid btw

About the sharpener - it doesn´t matter what brand you have. It is very important to go slowly and carefully. I usually create a very small amount of clippings ( dunno the english term - you know, smal pieces of wood and pencil left after sharpening), yet I have a very nice point. Control is very important too. :)) Thank for the viedo tho, I have a new insight about brushes!

Not sure if you care, lol, but i think the English term would be "Shavings"

Yep! That's what I do--my problem has to do with the angle of the blade not giving a precise tip, I've never managed to find a manual sharpener that doesn't have a small gap where the tip ends up not getting sharpened. I'll share photos to describe the issue when I go into that subject, though. Maybe by then I'll have found a better sharpener.

@@LomisPlayground Oh, I see. Well, when that happens, I just use box cutter and make it as sharp as I can. My husband sands his pencils on fine sandpaper. Also works well, but I´m not so sure if it could help on face-ups. :D

@@Figotkademargot I'm up for trying anything! Maybe I can use one of my craft knives to sharpen them and see if that works better. :D

Beautiful work. Can you tell me what the type of paint you're using for shading and blushing of the face and eye shadow? Is is powered and is it oil or water color or other?

The powder is chalk pastel. The paint I use is gouache :)

Super helpful! Thank you for this video, I am forever struggling to create fine clean lash strokes T_T I was also wondering what size brush you used in the video were? Pink one and black one..
@LomisPlayground6 ай бұрын
So the pink ones don't have size labels on them... they're Winstonia Berry Wine nail art brushes and are the same size but come in 3 different lengths in the pack. The middle length is my favorite and the one I use here. The black brush is a Princeton 10/0 watercolor script liner!

I've heard the prismacolor sharpener os the best maybe you are pressing them into the sharpener to hard, you gotta be light handed
