Having had to endure watching the Nothing But Crap version here in the US, I am praying that a PROPER version of the Opening Ceremonies will one day be released on DVD. I was living in Beijing when London 2012 was being held and I can tell you it was a weird time to be British in China. The Chinese media SLATED every single aspect of London 2012, not necessarily because it's London, but because it was the games after Beijing 2008. If Paris had won, they'd have done the same (and may even have gone as far as to say that London should have won because blah blah propaganda blah). I remember Chinese social media and news sites being filled with content, including serious state-owned journalists writing in-depth pieces about why London 2012 was the single-worst games ever in history. On the other hand, ordinary Chinese people seemed to enjoy it, my colleagues in the office were full of praise for much of it...but I also knew they were reading (and not openly rejecting) the same media. It was ODD.

As a white person I found this ceremony insulting. If London wanted to focus so much on diversity, then they should have played homage to Britain's empire at the right point and paid respect to all the countries like India who gained their independence, and then they could have paid homage to the immigrants who came after that period. But there was no reason to portray diversity in England's history before that. It is dishonest and comes across as forced. I am sure that if China were to put a bunch of white people in its ceremony there would have been never-ending outrage from liberals. But it seems that any country where the native population has blonde hair and blue eyes, is now not allowed to show any sort of homogeneity even if it was homogenous until very recently. Wait .....Russia's ceremony was homogenous and the press was constantly bashing it. Why didn't they bash China? White people and our obsession with diversity, are starting to become the laughing stock of the world. No other race acts like this. The East Asians don't, and if one day India, Saudi Arabia, or Nigeria has the money to host the Olympics, I am sure they will proudly show they heritage without this diversity nonsense. Wake up white people. The parts of this ceremony that were actually white had mocking tones to them. The queen jumping from a helicopter? Mr Bean wiping snot everywhere while a fancy orchestra is playing, and ruining a great British film also? You should be ashamed, Britain, of the joke you have become.
@greenhornet82626 жыл бұрын
fc1280 I’m not British but I thought the ceremony was great. I didn’t feel any mocking tones about anything. The queen jumping from the helicopter made her look bad ass and Mr bean expressed what British humor is. Britain in not homogenous anymore. It is multicultural therefore it would make sense to include all the races that have a British nationality. You talk about how China didn’t include other races, well if China’s population wasn’t 99.99 percent exclusively Chinese then they would have included other races. I’m sure than same thing would happen with Russia.
@mouseturbo15 жыл бұрын
What a ridiculous and shallow minded point of view. This is one of the greatest and multicultural city’s on earth. Why do you have to be so race specific? Surely the costume is enough to decipher the role trying to be portrayed, portrayed well by multicultural British citizens. Times have changed, try to open your mind and view roles played by performance and not the colour of somebody’s skin.
