I've been living in Tokyo the last 5 years, but preconceptions aside London is looking far more modern today.
@thomHD3 жыл бұрын
@Cypher Tokyo is much more liveable than London, really. Convenient, great transport, quick reasonably-priced food. Can be a challenging place to live and work as an expat, though, and while people say that London is expensive, your apartment and kitchen would be nicer for the same price.
@thomHD3 жыл бұрын
@Cypher I get by, but it's the only capital city in Asia I've ever been to where English is generally not spoken, besides at the airport and 5-star hotels. It's much easier getting by in English in Seoul and Taipei.
@thomHD3 жыл бұрын
@Cypher Yes and no; Japan's public debt will be pushing 300% of GDP this year. It's a proud culture, but the standard of living has really been paid for on credit the last 30 years. As one high-up Japanese economist once told me in person, the government of Japan is essentially bankrupt. So, the economy risks collapse without more dynamism and diversity (and either English or Chinese being spoken!). Taxes are already high and will increase. All things to consider before moving here!
@jimbocho6603 жыл бұрын
@@thomHD Japan has the highest debt to gdp ratio in the world but much of it is internal, provided in their own currency and at ultra low interest rates. The US's debt levels are far more dangerous. English hasn't done the US much good.
@thomHD3 жыл бұрын
@@jimbocho660 Whenever the topic of Japan's debt is mentioned, someone invariably chips in with "Yeah, but it's internally-held, so it's fine." This is always rolled out as a sort of blasé excuse. The point is, that debt is not a good thing - whether or not public debt is preferable to external, and regardless of whether or not Japan will ever actually default and crash. The reality is that Japan has only maintained an illusion of around 0% stability for 25 years through insane levels of quantitative easing. That debt borrowing has to stop eventually. All this while the population starts to decline rapidly. Japan runs the risk of transitioning, from 1950 to 2050, from poor to rich to poor.

Imagine if they got rid of city airport and built 5 long 3 mile avenues with skyscrapers and built that area up, would be awesome, lets also see how the old oak common skyscrapers go the next 10 years, maybe make two bridges crossing the thames linking a new skyscraper city in themesmead that whole area is underdeveloped and is the size of West London, anyway I live in Chicago, just saying

Finally someone who speaks utter sense, why that travesty of an airport exists is beyond me, it limits all but a few skyscrapers to 300m in height, and with the European trade centre development looking for a spot in London, it really needs to shut down and be developed further.

What fantastic aerial photography and appropriate musical choice. What if by the end of the century all of this land was reclaimed by the river due to inevitable climate change!? I need to say, I was very concerned about London over the last 3 weeks, But I 100% certain, that London will never Lose its character. Modern architecture, that doesnt fit to the city, will either be demolished, or stay as another Landmark for ages. Considering changes on regent street (just the pavement layout), battersea powerstation and paddington I think, We will get used to it. And mistakes might be revamped.
