Wow i drive in this area now and i just love seeing what used to be the case, I always have interests like that. Cant believe the 30 used to come up here and over the famous putney bridge lol Seems like back in the day these buses did long ass journeys! For example i drive the 14, everyone knows where it goes now, but back then im sure it said hackney on the blinds, thats crazy for example
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus4 жыл бұрын
Lots of routes went accoss London, the 12s went from South Croydon to Wembley! And with a vehicle allocation of over 100 buses! The 22s used to run through to Homerton which is just beyond Hackney Central. The 14s used to run to Hornsey Rise as well. Routes were cut back as the garages at each end of these long routes were in different bus operating companies when London Buses was split up for privitisation. Quite a lot of routes were split sadly.....
@ace-paidinfull52404 жыл бұрын
Soi Buakhao yes so i have noticed, i mean the privatisation is one thing, but i kinda wish routes stayed in some type of order per each garage also along with night routes. I think the tendering and all this competition is not needed, others may disagree, but running a service is something each company does and its hit and miss if another company or garage happen to get better results into whatever tfl expect. I saw the 14 saying hackney or something like that in another video so its weird to know that both routes i drive used to go all the way there, what about the 74 where was that, or is that a newer route? And wow the 12 used to go from croydon to wembley? That ridiculous 😂😂😂😂
@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus4 жыл бұрын
@@ace-paidinfull5240 The 74 used to run from Camden Town to Roehamoton. Back in the 1960s and 70s some routes had a Sunday's only extension, like the 15s to Richmond or the 73s to Teddington!
@uk-martin49054 жыл бұрын
@@ace-paidinfull5240 The full extent of the 12 route was from South Croydon Garage to Harlesden Willesden Junction although it invariably worked in two sections - for example South Croydon to Oxford Circus and Dulwich 'Plough' to Harlesden, meaning that all the buses served the busiest section of the route between which was between Dulwich and Oxford Circus. There were occasional exceptions: whilst still at 'Junior' school near Croydon in about 1962, I remember seeing a route 12 bus with its destination screen set for Park Royal Stadium, many miles beyond the customary terminus for buses from South Croydon. During the lengthy and painful political assasination of London Transport in the 1980s, the reason for long-established routes being altered became obvious - it was not because the travelling public suddenly demanded changes after 80 years of operation but because LT - no longer serving the public but its political masters instead - hacked routes about so they were generally confined to within one operating district rather than straddling two or three of them. One example, that route 8 stopped its traditional run run to Willesden Garage and diverted to Victoria instead had nothing to do with a sudden demand by passengers insisting immediate change to the traditional routing but was done to meet a politically-driven agenda. And, at that point, I left London, rather than witness the end of what was once probably the finest public transport operator in the world.
