Brilliant video.I lived in Muswell Hill from 1946 till 1974.,and although there are many changes there were plenty of places I still remember. My earliest recollection was going on a bus to Friern Barnet town hall to collect a free bottle of orange juice and free bottle of cod over oil issued to all children born just after the war.I was probably 4 or 5.

@@Graham_Ross The only railway I can recall was the minature one that ran around the boating lake at All Pally. I used to go train spotting at New Southgate station in the 1950's,when that was a popular pastime for boys.We would often stand on the footbridge and from there you could see trains coming out of the tunnel,and dash down to the path that ran alongside the tracks, if it was a train we were interested in.We used to have a whip round to buy a bottle of Tizer from a shop In New Southgate,and pass it round. Pretty sure that would be 1956 to 58 era.Happy Days.

I did that run last year, when the VPLs were still operating the route. I went from there to Turnpike Lane. That woman could certainly natter. I couldn't hear that nice lady making the announcements for her.

Thank you, Graham. Was this trip on the fully electric bus? If so, what were your impressions, please?

Alf - I have not yet ridden on a fully electric bus - despite all the publicity not all the buses on the route are electric. I spoke to a couple of drivers at Friern Barnet. They said that it was a smooth ride. However, the buses being heavier mean heavier steering. They also do not have such a tight turning circle as the hybrids.

Thanks again, Graham. Heavy steering could be easily fixed, & it may be preferred by some drivers. 'Back in the day', at CT, a small minority of the RMs were, experimentally, fitted with Michelin radials rather than the ubiquitous Bridgestone crossplies. The heavy steering caused by the Michelins was offset by the far greater grip provided on wet roads; I, for one, preferred the Michelins. Alf.
