Strangely, it is in a way. By the time I get into work I'm pumped and ready to take on the day. And after a stressful day at work the ride home burns off all the stress and I'm super chill by the time I'm home and in the shower. 😉👍

While I certainly share your frustration, a lot of this is brought on by being impatient. There are lots of people on the road in London. If you see something that doesn't look right, keep calm and hang back for a moment. No amount of teaching people a lesson will ever work! Only accident I've had in 3 years is an untethered road barrier being picked up into the air by the wind. You can't catch them all!
@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007

Unfortunately this is Central London rush hour and I need to get to work. Everyone is impatient and many not following the rules and there comes a point where you can’t wait for everyone else to get to work first, and you have to hold your ground. Shame it has to be that way. Hopefully one day it’ll improve. Currently though a large proportion of pedestrians and drivers refuse to wait for cyclists. Keep safe out there, especially on windy days! 🙂👍🏻

It's something that has to be done with extreme caution. One one hand you are safe alongside as vehicles cannot move directly sideways, on the other hand it's dangerous as the space ahead of you can disappear very quickly. I'm always hyper alert when doing it and ready to back out in an instant. I'd not recommended trying it to inexperienced cyclists.

Glad that you're so skilled and fearless. I've just started and I don't want to end up in those scenarios, I experienced some of them as in your video and that's enough for me, I'm not going beyond cycle paths and quiet roads either deserted or with bumpers. I wish there were segregated lanes at least we shouldn't have to deal with those drivers. Also flabbergasted by the bullying you're getting in the comments, you've got a sporty riding style of someone who knows what he's doing rather than my auntie or me strolling, certainly not illegal. I do know that in court a cyclist is always on the wrong side when a pedestrian walks in front of the cyclist and gets hit though, especially if the cyclist horned at the pedestrian (it was on the news kind of recently) as they think you horned instead of being more careful as horning it seems to be considered totally irrelevant.

I think your manner of cycling with regard to pedestrians, if converted to driving, would be considered aggressive. Remember it’s not a specific offence for pedestrians to cross against a red man, they can really cross whenever. I think a little more patience in some circumstances would be warranted.

It’s not a specific offence to stick your finger into an electric socket... Pedestrians should show a little more patience at crossing when they have the red, I agree. I also drive, on the whole pedestrians and drivers respect other cars. Pedestrians wait when they see you car, other drivers cut you up far less. Cycling and driving in a busy city are too very different things.

Hi there! Why are architectural firms and urbanists pushing for bike lanes in metropolitan areas? Because: - an architect and urbanist works remotely, in a home computer; - It is important for an architect and urbanist that their project wins the competition; - it is more interesting for an architect and an urbanist that the municipal administration has a good income for the maintenance of bicycle infrastructure; - an architect and urbanist does not have practice on bicycle at least 3000 km per year; - an architect and an urbanist are indifferent to the problems a user of a cycle path in a metropolis has. At the same time, most cyclists require bike paths only because of ignorance, inability, and disregard for traffic rules. Their dream is that their ignorance does not cause problems for them.
@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007

I agree that cycle lanes in City centres are only necessary as currently motor vehicles and cycles can’t play nice together. It would be far better if we could just all use the same roads safely. Outside city centres where the speed differential is much higher between cycles and motor vehicles (40mph+ roads) I can see the need for separate lanes.

These videos have popped up again as a recommendation, rather annoyingly. You still have not learnt to kill your speed and be more aware of your surroundings. I've said it before and I'll say it again you'll learn the hard way. Look forward to the day when you approach a ped at speed when they are crossing the road and you end up getting cracked across the head by them for being an arse. Next time you are crossing the road and a car beeps at you to hurry up and get out of the way remember that you are no different to this.

Quite the opposite, with my careful cycling, adherence to the rules and simply by looking where I’m going I was able to stop for and avoid all of these incidents. Incidents caused by people not looking, aggressively walking out into the road when it’s not clear. If they could take a second to look, wait for a safe gap before crossing the roads would be much safer.

So when the Amber shows, I push off with my foot to get a bit of momentum so I can clip in and start cycling as the light goes green. So I think you're right, however I've not moved more than a metre before the green comes on, and it wouldn't be necessary if drivers were a bit more patient towards slow starting cyclists at the lights. Why keep cycling at speed at people on the road? No thought for partially sighted, deaf or mentally impaired people not fully aware of their surroundings. Persons already on the road when you approach have right of way, regardless of you having a green light. Remember, your bike is not so easy to see, and makes no noise as it approaches. @@cheddaz86 I think our traffic laws are pretty liberal really, they are not too complicated. I feel it’s more of a cultural issue than anything to do with the rules. People show far less respect to each other these days, and are a lot more self centres plus many are cocooned in their personal bubble of smartphones, noise cancelling headphones etc. and are therefore far less aware of their surroundings. I think a lot more should be done on educating people on road use from an early age. Also I think that in the next decade AI and self driving cars should make the roads far safer and efficient.

Apart from the dozy car drivers and pedestrians, it seems to me that a lot of cyclists expect to cycle as fast as they can irrespective of their own safety and the hazards around them
@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 2 жыл бұрын
It’s a common misconception that cycles are too fast/racing/zooming etc. My average speed on my commute is 13-15mph. My max speed is a little over 20mph. This is slower than the cars/mopeds/motorbikes passing at 30mph on the same roads and well below the speed limits. What do you think poses more danger to pedestrians, a two tonne SUV travelling 30mph, or a 90kg cyclist travelling 15mph? Which do you think can stop faster? Motor vehicles kill 450-500 pedestrians a year in the UK, cyclists maybe 1 every few years (although it always makes the press). We’re “too fast” until the second we’re in front if your car when all of a sudden we’re too slow and we’re beeped at for being in the way, moaned at for leaving the cycle lane or riding two abreast, holding up the motor-vehicles. So it’s hypocritical to call cyclists too fast when you’re happy to drive cars, lorries, buses etc. far faster down the very same roads. The speed of cyclists is not the problem, the problem is that many pedestrians/drivers do not look out for cyclist, or even when they do see them they refuse to wait.
@tmahe28
@tmahe28 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not a misconception at all. I regularly see 100kg hurtling at 20-30 mph just inches away with zero attempt to slow down around pedestrians and it’s not acceptable. That weight at that speed is lethal to the young and elderly. This is about pedestrian safety and cyclists. Stop diverting the conversation to other vehicles as they are irrelevant to the point being made. Cyclist must slow down around pedestrians
@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 2 жыл бұрын
@@tmahe28 It’s not at all irrelevant, we see cars driving “hurtling” 20-30mph alongside busy pavements full of pedestrians too. And the system is designed that way, that’s perfectly legal, hence we’re all taught from about 3 years old that roads are dangerous and you have to stop, look, if traffic is coming let it pass, and wait for a safe gap before crossing. Read rule 7 of the Highway Code. You are the one that’s deflecting. If you walk out into the road without looking you are very likely to encounter a lorry, bus, van, car, motorcycle, moped or a cyclist legally moving at 20-30mph. I’ve put those in order of most dangerous to least. You can’t sit there and say you’re happy for all the rest to legally travel at that speed alongside the pavement through town yet blame the least dangerous/slowest of the bunch just because you can’t be bothered to look/wait for cyclists. It’s very hypocritical.
@tmahe28
@tmahe28 2 жыл бұрын
@@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 you keep claiming I say things (which I never said) whilst not focusing on the only point I am making which is about pedestrians and cyclists. There is nothing at all hypocritical in saying that cyclists need to slow down when there are pedestrians about. Pedestrians are more vulnerable than cyclists and it is the responsibility of cyclists to consider pedestrian safety. Due to the close proximity of pedestrians and cyclists to each other and the fact that cyclists are harder to see or hear than larger noisier vehicles it makes perfect sense to ease off a bit for their safety. I would say 10 mph is more than enough
@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007
@ryansedgwick-londoncycling9007 2 жыл бұрын
@@tmahe28 It’s hypocritical when you only target cyclists, and ignore the motor vehicles on the very same roads. If you think the in-town 20-30mph speed limits should come down to 10mph then they should come down for all road vehicles, not just the least dangerous. It is also the pedestrians responsibility to consider cyclist safety. A collision is just as likely to injure the cyclist. We are easier to see than a pedestrian, I have a bright orange bike and have two flashing lights front and rear all year around. You’ll see me if you look! No point using your ears to cross the road, there are electric scooters, mopeds, motorbikes and cars now which are almost silent at 20-30mph. My videos are full of misses because I take great care. It’s not as fast as it looks (GoPro gives a false impression of speed), I’m following the rules and looking where I’m going. As a pedestrian there are rules that apply to you too (Read HC rule 7). You can’t walk out into a road without looking, then blame road vehicles that are legally travelling at a sensible speed. This is half the problem with people today, the refusal to take personal responsibility, just to point and shout at others to divert blame. It’s so simple, we expect small children to understand that roads are dangerous, traffic is moving at speed so take care, stop, look, listen, and wait for a safe gap before crossing. What’s hard to understand about that?

Instead of treating conested roads like race tracks, try riding more responsibly and read the road ahead. Take that chip off your shoulder and you may live longer.
