Ruben Reyes I was up on Primrose Hill yesterday with my girlfriend and we stood there in the mud and cold on top of the hill for three hours just for a good spot to see all the fireworks. Needless to say it was worth it and neither of us recorded the event because that would've ruined the moment. I guess you can say each to their own but live a little - life isn't on a screen it's right in front of you and in the future I fear people are going to waste it all away because they've become so obsessed with the little black box in their pocket instead of the big open world they live in.

Every time I asked why they were here for the NY they all said the same sort of things "we saw last years NY display on KZbin and had to be here to see it for our selves". There was one American family who came in 2012 to see the fireworks after seeing them on youtube in 2011 (they were being interviewed by Sky News). They said they enjoyed the display and NY in London so much in 2012 that they had to come back. But this time they came with all their friends. So anyone saying its a wast of money are not thinking with their brains, Sadly. The money this display brings in regarding tourists well out ways the money these fireworks cost. The atmosphere there was amazing so its no wonder word of mouth has spread and London has become the place to be. Well done Boris!

Plenty of people donate money to Cancer Research Charity, me included. There is enough doom and gloom in the world, so for one night isn't it good to try and forget all the worries and illnesses of the world just for 10 minutes and blow the expense. British citizens are re-known for giving millions to charity, Children In Need, Comic Relief, not forgetting 'Fun Runs' the London Marathon, the list is endless

Donnington Brown EDIT: this is adam warren lol forgot i was on the wrong account. I totally agree with you that this country needs less doom and gloom. While i wasn't a HUGE supporter of the cost of the Olympics when it first started, ill admit that i really for behind it when it started. It did bring thing country together and let us forget our worries for a few weeks. Its also encouraged millions to get fitter and healthier. We need more happiness in this life. That said, i don't feel this did anything to help us forget our worries except for the few thousand in attendance for 3-5 mins while they went off (and most were too out of their skulls to know what was happening lol). It may sound like i am saying "Lets not do anything to be happy while there are others suffering" and i am honestly not. Life doesn't and shouldn't work this way. It didn't help that a few moments before showing this on Sky News (or bbc news..i forget which channel it was) they showed a year retrospective and showed how the country had struggled economically this year. Showing people who were actually working having to visit food banks to feed their families, old people who couldn't afford heating. and even care homes shutting down...Then they show a HUGE firework display that does nothing for the country, as a whole, and then announce it costs £2,000,000. While there are hospices, mental health clinics,care homes, support groups, non profit home care providers, small community projects all shutting down due to lack of funding and would help the community alot more than the thousand in attendance i can't see how this was appropriate.

As a London council tax payer who contributed to the paying of this, I couldn't disagree with you more. I pay about 5% of my wage to charity every year; I don't pay my taxes just for more of it to go to charity, I'll make my own decisions as to how philanthropic I'll be this year, not Boris Johnson. Stop being so damned miserable; this pyrotechnic show is huge value for money and keeps hundreds of thousands busy for a few hours rather than down the pub starting the year paralytic. If you're so passionate about cancer research donate your own money; don't just syphon other people's money for your own cause.
