It's great to show food can be provided for £1 a day but you can't live on it. Your travelling around. No doubt if u lived like this you would pay bills. So to those saying about how people on benefits should struggle or people on low income shouldn't struggle. Don't forget this just covers food! Great ideas though :)

I agree that people on benefits can't live on £1/day. However, as for the reasoning, he also doesn't buy in bulk and plan for the next days. If he'd bought £7 of groceries for 7 days maybe he'd be better off or had to travel around less. But yeah, it wouldn't have been enough to sustain a person. He is also in good shape and health (I bet he bikes a lot in this challenge), which can't really be said for many people on benefits who either can't work due to health conditions or their health deteriorated because of their condition. Or both.

You have to remember though, not everyone on benefits is able to travel like he is. I’m disabled & unable to use public transportation, I also live in a relatively small town (certainly compared to a big city like London, anyway!) I go through phases where I’m able to batch cook & freeze my meals, unfortunately I then crash after I do that with a big pain flare up. I was only speaking to my mother about this last night & I said I’d be MORE than happy to share out the meals I make, if when I’m unable to cook or make meals for myself, they’d be someone in the community I could lean on in return (I love the OLIO idea), but we just don’t have anything like that here. I feel there’s more of an overall community spirit in London which makes living on very little more doable if you have the time. I’m not keen on people using soup kitchens etc though unless they really really need it, as they’re often in high demand & have to turn people away by the end of the evening as they’ve run out of food. Unless in dire need or on really low income, there’s no need to use them (although I understand why Toba used them for the purpose of this series!)
